13-1 = 12? No....it equals a happy owner!
So.... I was travelling out of townyesterday, ,and my sales clerk called me while I was out of town and told me to come in as soon as I get back. I got back into town this morning: He had set aside a pristine Browning Superposed from 1955~ and said he would cut me a deal on it if I also bought a Smith and Wesson 13-1 that they had on consignment. Needless to say my bank account is protesting massively, but I took the bait (and the financial hit )
Here are pics of the 13-1, it has just a little wear at the muzzle end and a small turn line. It locked up quite tightly. Because I bought the shotgun as part of a package deal, I got the revolver for slightly less than 500 dollars. It is Pinned and Recessed.
This is my first .357 Magnum! I'm smitten!

Nice. And not a bad price.
For the record, all Model 13-1 revolvers were P&R. So were the -2s. Those features were not eliminated until 1982, when the -3 was released.
Yours has a serial number from 1975. It is pretty early in Model 13-1 production. As you probably know, there wasn't a Model 13 with no dash number. Instead, the predecessor was a special run of the Model 10-6, chambered for the .357 Magnum, in response to a special order from the NYSP. I have one of the latter and it bears a serial number in the D707300 range. It shipped to NY in May, 1974.

She's real sweet. I had kept money on the side specifically for that special 13, but it had been a long time and I caved buying a Model 65.
Nice find.

OK so the Smith exists, but the Browning is still uhhh shall we say an undocumented acquisition.
Pictures of the Browning are in order because it was part of the deal?

Yes, like a Marxist, I'm quoting myself . . .
But here's the thing: I got to thinking after I posted this that there were a few (we don't know how many, but it wasn't a lot) Model 13-1 revolvers that were chambered for the .38 Special. No one seems to know why. I had a long-distance opportunity to buy one a few years ago, but wasn't able to close the deal. So, I've never actually held one in my hand. I suspect those did not have counterbored cylinders. Can anyone affirm that by actual experience? Someone on here must actually own one of these unicorns.

First, let me give you all my profound gratitude for your expertise and wisdom. I'm thankful to have such knowledgable resources from whom I can learn about these pieces of history! Do we know how many Model 13-X's were made in total?
Second, I am a Veteran (US Navy) and NRA member, I need to figure out how to put these emblems in my name tag area.
Third, here are some pics of the Superposed. It is from 1955, and from what I understand it's the first year that Browning offered 3" chamberings?
The gun store clerk thought that the pad was not original (and reduced the price accordingly), but it is marked "Browning" and from what I am reading, pads were actually fitted on superposed shotguns with 3" chambers.
I got out of the store with both guns for 1350 before tax was added.
(Apologies, I am not sure why they are upside down!)

Hard to beat a Superposed for class! Nice gun and nice pics. You certainly did not get hurt on the price for the two guns.

Go back to the profile area and simply answer the questions about yourself. Lee's magic programming will insert the emblems for you automatically.
To get to your profile, click on your handle in the upper right corner of the page. Then click on "About Me."

I don't know either, but it seems to happen to newcomers on a regular basis. Must be something weird going on with the code. Or something. Ask Lee. He will probably give you some clues as to how it can be fixed.

Why would buying the 13-1 be a requirement to buying the shotgun? That wouldn’t have lasted in my gun shop in that condition. I had a 13-2 in similar condition years ago. Dope that I was I sold it for a plastic semi auto I no longer own.

I love the Superpose! Is that a "Lightning" butt stock or a "Prince of Wales? (the difference is an "S" type of bend in the grip, this could be an illusion from the photo angle) I have both a 12 30" and a 20 28" Lightning and am always on the lookout for a 28 gauge 28 or 30"
The balance and swing on these production guns rivals bespoke fitting!

Very nice Superposed.
It appears to be sporting a solid rib instead of the standard ventilated rib. A nice feature.
Congrats on a great deal. The Superposed is worth what you paid for both guns.

That particular gun shop mostly moves guns with a lot of polymer or plastic in them. They cater to that sort of crowd. It had been sitting there on consignment for some time.
I think he just wanted to move it.
I do have a personal rule nowadays where I will only buy a gun if it is undervalued, so this helped me out in this instance.
I am not sure about the permutations of the Superposed. If there is some sort of features or identification guide, I could use that and get back to all here.
