Default Model 37 safe queen

I just purchased a Model 37 with a 3 inch barrel in nickel. The plating is immaculate. Wow is in good shape. Doesn't look like it was handled much. I'm guessing it was made in the late 1970's from the serial number. Serial no J558XXX. Is my guess of date correct.

Nothing should be regulated to a shelf in the safe, these pistols were made to be shot and enjoyed. When the winter snows come I enjoy them by cleaning, wiping and dry firing in the warmth of my gun room otherwise it is out to the gravel pit and noisy fun. My last acquisition is a unfired Model 19-4 which will go bang (not counting three proof rounds) for the first time next month. Just my opinion .

Check to be sure the frame is not cracked under the barrel in the yoke cut-out. Otherwise, great little revolver.

No cracks observed. Sot it for the first time. Wow, that hurt to shoot.

Default Model 37 Safe Queen

I too have a Model 37 safe queen: not because it is dressed in its Sunday best but with my 75-year-old eyes, I can no longer see a sight picture with the fine sights normally put on the ubiquitous J-frame revolvers.

I have a blued version Model 37-2 revolver like yours. I shoot it fairly often. I shoot factory wadcutter ammo. It makes nice holes in the paper and is quite comfortable to shoot as a practice round.

Try some Pachmayr (or similar) rubber/tupperware grips on it for shooting, makes it much more bearable! Nice gun BTW!

Sticking with the mid range 148 gr. wadcutters will be a big help for comfort. Current wisdom (at least from some recognizable names in the gun world) seems to be that that round is an acceptable choice for self defense.
