Default Got a M27-2 Long Tube Today

I like Model 27's. Up until now, the only 8 3/8" I have has been a Pre 27 in the original box and appears to be unfired. So I don't shoot that one. But today I found this one that has definitely been fired and will see some more range time. It is a 27-2 from about 1979 - 1980 and in nickel. Has the target trigger, hammer, and stocks. No white outline on the rear, and no red ramp on the front. It came with these extra stocks, which I have no idea about who made them. Maybe someone can chime in to identify them.

Very nice, I have one in blue which was my very first S&W 357 bought in 1974. The extra stocks look like Ahrends; the same as are on my 29-8 Mountain Gun. Enjoy.

I agree the grips look like Kim Ahrends. I have a couple pair. Very ergonomic. Nice gun. I only have 2 long barrel revolvers. A 8 3/8" 57-1 41 Mag and a 10.5" 500 Mag. Enjoy!

Nice long Tom. Grips look like Ahrends to me too, but I thought he marked the inside with his name though. He is in the process of having to stop making his grips. They are nice, so don't just give them away........unless to me, of course.

The long tube 27's and 29's shoot like a laser. Back in the 70's and
80's I shot silhouette with a 29-2 8 3/8. Won some trophies.

Nice looking 8-inch 27-2 you’ve got there. Mine, in blue, is a lot of fun. I enjoy shooting it at 100-yard targets. Recoil is mild, so it’s a lot more pleasant to shoot, and I can shoot it a lot more, than my similar guns in .44 Magnum. I prefer the black, target sights of the Model 27, for precision long-range shooting where the contrasting color of the white-outline rear and red-ramp front are not needed.

Congrats on your new .357!

That is likely the one I called on last week. But the guy refused to send me pictures, some nonsense about his phone. It would have been a great match to my Nickel 29. But can't deal with BS, so I passed. Hope you get a lot of fun out of it!

Those stocks are Ahrends, they came standard on some S&Ws and as such they are not stamped with Ahrends' mark. I like the fit and feel of those stocks.

I've only had two 8 3/8" and sold both of them.
This was my nickel 1982 27-2 transitional. 3-T, recessed but not pinned.
I think this one had been shot very little.

John:

What a fun 27-2! Not much for concealed carry, but a ton of fun to shoot at the range. And a very nice set of Ahrends combat stocks. I have that model of Ahrends on a 6.5" 27-2 that I shoot all the time. I really like the feel of them.

Yes, Ahrends retro combat finger grooves. I have a set on my 24-3. They are extremely comfy.
