got my bucket list gun
gun show in town this weekend. tax refund on friday.
i now have a 29-2 4".
with a serial number N7977xx, what would be a birth year?
it ain't the prettiest with a few small scars, but it should be a good shooter.
so, i'm a happy camper tonight.

SCSW#4 gives it a ship date of 1980. Those are great shooting guns. You're going to love it. Others should be along soon who can pin it down a bit closer. I use to shoot a couple of Model 29's but can't handle the recoil anymore due to some medical issues. Have one last 29 to get rid of, a beautiful nickel long tube.

I don't think I have a bucket list gun. I'm pretty content with what I have.
I am picking up a nice set of S&W Cokes tomorrow for my favorite 6.5" M-27.

I picked up my 4" Model 29-2 (1977) at a local gun show a few years ago for a good price, and it's got a few scars too. You may find that installing a set of Pachmayrs or Hogues when at the range improves the shoot-ability and extends your practice time. It's definitely a handful with full-power loads. Enjoy.

Great find, it’s always feels good when you find a gun you’ve really wanted. You’ll have lots of great range time with that one.
I pick up one a while back that I’ve been looking for quite awhile.
It’s a 29-3 not a -2 but it’s a great looker.

Yep. I watched it again the other night. One of my favorite quotes from the show, that and "even worms gotta eat".
I used to borrow a 4" M-29-2 from my brother to take rabbit hunting. I loved pulling the trigger.
My good friend lets me crack off a few rounds with his 4" when we go shooting.
I only have one M-29, a 1964 6.5" -2.

Obviously you need an everyday rabbit gun.

Congrats on the bucket gun. The 4" 44's are my favorite by far. The sweet spot for fun shooting. Enjoy.

Kenny-I’ll lend you my wife’s suppressed M&P .22 if you have an upcoming rabbit hunt. Of course you are probably used to your game being skinned by the blast.
Pete-Are you looking for the “right” 29-2 or another bucket list gun?
Jim

Well, you never know Jim. I would say a 4" like the OP got, but it is not on a bucket list. 4" M29's have a real business like look to them

Honestly Pete, I can’t say I have a bucket list. I appreciate them all, and my collection is all over the place. I’m thinking about selling off a few really nice ones because I’m a shooter, not a caretaker. I feel a responsibility to preserve for the next guy.

Couple years ago I bagged a 4" 29-2 c. 1976 in unused condition for 650. Put 6 rounds through it and I remembered that I can't shoot 44 Magnum revolvers due to the recoil. Put it on Gunbroker and sold it for 1350.

Nice find. Haven't seen any 4" 29s at gun shows in the past year or so. It's great when you can cross one off your bucket list.

i haven't seen one at a show for a long time, other than an 8" barrell a few years ago. they just aren't around here too often.
like the guys on american pickers say: "the time to buy it is when you see it."

Hard to find around here also. -2 or older anyway. All of mine are found on Gunbroker or here on the forum. I have several 4" Blued 29's including two 5 screws and a recently added 4 screw. They would be the last to leave me. Have fun with that new gun.

My 29-2 with a set of Keith Brown grips I brought home from last year’s symposium. It was a gift from my wife many Christmases ago. They are authoritative looking.

I cannot tell if yours has a pinned barrel...or is a transition gun? My eyes are not getting any younger.

Great revolver and perfect packin revolver. 10 grs Unique behind 250 gr Keith SWC (John Taifun load) is a match made in heaven for this barrel length, good power without excessive muzzle blast and very accurate.
Have fun!

It is a transition gun, it has a recessed cylinder and no barrel pin. S/N 8833XX.

Me too! Me too! My Mod 29 (no dash) 4", S193xxx, from 1959. Purchased directly from widow, stating her late husband had never fired it. The cloudy appearance is factory protective lubricant! No indications of firing and remaining so as safe queen.
Congrats & thanks for the Thread Michael and to all!
God's Blessings! Best to all & stay safe!!!

Congrats, very nice find. And all the others below. I'm a big fan of the 44's and 45's and have several N Frames in my stable. I found myself wanting a 6.5" 29-2 "Just Because" and it seemed like every one I found bid way up to unreal numbers. But after over half a dozen attempts I caught one which came in reasonable but with unexpected features. It wasn't heavily described but turned out to be S serial with Cokes so happiness achieved. Enjoy your shooter!

The best thing about finding your bucket list gun is...
you find a new bucket list gun to lust after.
Got mine (my long tom nickel 27-2) back in December.
Honest honey, a Model 41 is the last gun I'll ever need to buy...
