Were the top straps on pre Model 27's or 27's hand checkered or stamped? Thanks.

I would say neither. I think they were machine checkered but not stamped.

Tom, not sure but in S&W speak it would have been checked or not checked. Like grips = stocks and crane = yoke

IMHO they did this just to be different from their largest competitor right down the street in CT. You know, the 4 letter "C" word.
