M&P 38 Grips Info Needed
I recently purchased this pre Model 10 M&P 38 Spl. Serial # is 5786XX, which I believe would date the revolver to just prior to 1940. Very pleased with the gun, but the original grips were swapped out at some point for a pair of later model grips. These grips don’t fit very well and I’m not sure if these are even K frame grips. I’m trying to figure out what grips would be original to the gun. I’m not currently in my home state so I don’t have any of my reference materials With me.

No, the're not originals. If memory serves, the original grips are what appears on this forum as "high horn magnas".

Here's a shot of my M&P Target, shipped June 7, 1939. The stocks I believe to be rosewood, but walnut was more common. Serialed 677xxx.
If the gun dates to the 1920s, the correct style would be as illustrated here - this M&P dates from 1923.

I don't have my book handy either but I would make a SWAG that the revolver dates around the mid to late 1920s.

Based on nearby serials, your .38 M&P shipped in 1926 or 1927. Therefore, the stocks in Paladin's second picture would be correct.
The stocks currently on your gun are from 1967 or later.
Here is a pic of an M&P that shipped in February, 1926. It is wearing correct stocks for the period.

The correct stocks have been identified already as far as comfort goes.......well that may be another story.
