Default new to me 19-3 snubbie nickel finish question

I picked this up yesterday from a friend, it is a model 19-3 pinned and recessed nickel finish snub nose in great shape, smith book says 1971 as did smith customer service. I saw a photo of a lew Horton 624 with the exact same grips I have on mine. is there any way to find out if this is a LH gun?

Those grips came along much later than the gun itself. The correct stocks for your revolver are the RB checkered magnas without the diamond (post '66).

The grips on your gun are scarce and valuable, as well as practical, even though they are not original to the gun.

Your gun also, oddly, has a Target Hammer as well as wide Target Trigger. While these were options on the Model 19 they cost extra. Probably added to your gun later, but possibly ordered that way...only a letter would tell.

yes it does have the target trigger and hammer, also has white outline rear sight, it really is a beautiful piece. all smith customer service could tell me was produced 1971

The 2.5 M19-3 was a regular production model. Not special order or limited edition. Those stocks were popular in the 1980s and are often encountered.

Short of the target hammer and trigger this is most likely how your gun would have looked when it shipped.
