So now you have a whole bunch of opinions. Did it help you make your choice? In the end its whatever YOU like, not what WE like.

In my case I voted based on the 2 choices. But, in reality, if it were MY gun I wouldn't put either one on it, and I'd keep looking.

I am always amazed how many good stocks you can find on EBay.

I like the contours of the Hogues but I'm not crazy about he grain.
The Alamonts have that "machine checkering and engraving look' unlike real ropers. I refer to those as "punch press Ropers".

Ropers!
I practice what I preach!

Here are a few examples of mine in olive wood and santos rosewood.

I like hogue too, but I like the Ropers for this application.

Those Altamont's are too narrow at the top and 1/2" too long. I had a pair that came on a 24 reproduction. VERY uncomfortable to shoot. Mine got gone in a hurry. Don't care for the Hogue's either. They they are too long too with the stirrup assembly. I prefer original S&W target stocks. They are the right width and length. Eagle coke reproductions are 100% better.

Had to resurrect this thread just to bring some closure to the issue. Thank you all for your opinions, but I'll take it from here.

As already shown in the thread, I ditched the Ropers for some genuine S&W book-matched target stocks on the 19. I still had not decided what to do with the 15 with the Hogues on it. I ended up buying several guns that make up a vintage bullseye battery (fodder for a future thread, once I have them all in hand - Jersey don't you know) and will be equipping them with vintage, wrap-around target stocks, which means a pair of Driskill Elk Stags became available. A natural for the 15...

So there you have it - Elk Stags on the 15 and it's my opinion that counts. LOL.

Adios,

Pizza Bob
