Default Just a Thank you

A few weeks ago on a whim I bought a 3" Mod 60 flat latch and to me, I considered a 60 year old gun to be an "antique" so I ventured up in the forum to the top couple of sections. I want to say how much I have learned and how impressed I am with the wisdom, knowledge, and helpfulness people here are blessed with.
Being trapped in the house for a couple of weeks is so much easier with the ability to learn something new even if I never plan to participate in collecting.
Thank you all for what you do.

I'm not sure that anybody actually "plans" to participate, it just kind of sneaks up on you. The realization came to me when I started buying guns that I had no intention of ever shooting, but just wanted them anyway.

Give it some time, your perspective may change. And thanks for expressing the nice sentiments.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

gnystrom,
I totally agree with you on how folks on this S&W Forum are willing to take time and share their vast knowledge. Each of the four categories in the "Revolver" section of this forum have members just oozing with helpful/valuable information. I regularly visit each of the 4 revolver categories and thoroughly enjoy reading the threads about the S&W's I already own or looking to purchase.
Word of caution...I now have at least 1 revolver (mildly stated) from each category in the revolver section. Once you've tried 1...surely you gotta try the rest???
Hope you aren't trapped much longer.
God Bless,
Ray

Can't say I have ever seen a Model 60 of any vintage with a flat latch.

Great thoughts in the OP.

As regards the revolver the op mentions, three things struck me: 60-years old (1960) -- Model 60 came out in '65; 3" -- I'm not sure when the first 3" Model 60 came out; and as others mentioned -- the flat latch.

Looking forward to learning more.

The mods moved my post because I had it in the wrong section.
Maybe this will help. This is 1961 mfg. and to my kids and grandkids, anything older than 40 years is "vintage".

That is a fine revolver but a model 36, not a stainless model 60.

There's the problem.

It's NOT a Model 60.

It's a model 36.

What does the box say.

If it says model 60 compare the serial number... it shouldn't match

By the way, I have a 3" Model 36 and I really like the balance for a small gun. I think you will glad you gave in to your whim.

Now you're talking, gnystrom!

That's a beauty!

Would you mind sharing the s/n for those of us track such details?

The box, having a solid border looks correct for a 1961 model 36 but a model 60 which the gun is definitely not, would have a box with broken line border around top. Interesting to hear why the op thought it is a mod 60?? Is it written on end label?

That's a nice looking revolver. To add to what the others are saying with S&W any revolver starting with a 6 as in 60 is stainless steel.

When I quote I generally omit the pictures so as to avoid duplication. However, that's such a nice looking old 3" 36 as it deserves reposting the pics. VERY NICE!
