Default Nice Model 28 box, tools, papers value

I have a nice 4" Model 28 that I bought gun only.
This nice box and its label matches my gun exactly except for the serial number. My gun is N115, whereas the box is N48xxx.
Is it worth $90? Good price? Too high?
Any opinions or advice is appreciated....

With tools and paperwork I think $90 is more than fair

Were it me I'd stash the $90 towards my next gun. I'd only be interested in the correct tools and paperwork IF I had the original box. But that's just me.

Save your money. There are folks that think any box is good enough, but at resale time, I doubt "any box" will make your gun worth a lot more. JMO, of course.

A random box is worth nothing to me. If I had one laying around I would post it here with the serial number hoping someone would come forward with the matching gun and I would gift it to them.

You will have a gun and a box. Not a gun with box and papers.

I've only done this once - bought a box for an M28. At the end of the day, I had a really nice M28 .... and a random box. I regretted spending the $50.

It's not my cup of tea, but I can see why someone would want to put a really nice revolver together with a "correct" box and tools as an example of how it shipped, even if they weren't THE box and tools it shipped with. Not all that hard to understand even if I wouldn't do it myself.

I think $90 is a good ballpark number, $75 is too low. Remember, the tools and paperwork are included, it's not just a box. A box in excellent condition should go for $50 to someone who wants it. Tools, even used tools, would bring another $40 give or take. Somebody somewhere would pay $15 or $20 for the paperwork alone. Ninety dollars is not outrageous.

Thank you all very much for the input. I have all my original boxes, papers & tools for all my other guns (except my G-grandfather's Lefever shotgun, which does have its mutton leg case), so I went ahead and bought it.

Good for you. I am of the opinion that if having your gun paired with a nice period correct box makes you happy, then paying the $90 isn't a big deal. I've pissed away $90 in way worse ways and it never prevented me from acquiring a gun I really wanted.
