Default Price range idea

I am not looking to sell. But was curious of the price range of an I-frame in 32S&W Long with original grips and carry wear. Lets guess 80% on the finish.

Reasonable ball park is fine. I live in upper/northern Midwest if geography matters.

Default M30

I rescued a 30 from the Short Pump VA Cabela’s (mismarked as a 31 on the hang tag) with chewed up grips and broken hammer spur. $295 but they took $275.

Upstanding member here had some grips (high but reasonable considering the scarcity) and a little cold blue corrected a large area of wear. This will never be a collector item or trade bait but will continue it’s life as a useful companion.

Good thing I don’t live closer to Richmond, I would have tried to beat you to that one!

OP, age and exact condition of that I-frame of yours will have some effect on price as will those original grips and other factors. Most important to me is whether it has a coil spring or leaf spring (look for the strain spring.). SWAG, anywhere from about $250-450 or so, depending on who wants it. Oh yeah, if it’s a snub, that brings a little premium.

As usual, Froggie hit the nail on the head. These ranged in price from $215 to $420, over the last 2.5 years.

Yes it is a snub. Just like the one on the lower right in the picture above. Except I do not believe it has a flat latch.

My grandfather carried it when he took the money from
His dentist practice business to the bank for deposit each night.

Not sure of age and i do not currently have possession of it. My 80 year old mother carries it as she has ccw when she feels she needs to carry.

All I can say is I was born in 1966 and I can always remember my grandfather (now passed) or my mom has had it.

I did take it apart and clean it for her. But cannot remember for sure what spring it had. But if I had to guess it would be leaf spring. As it was as I expected being the same as an old k22 model 17 I had gotten from my grandfather.

Maybe I could have my mom Take some pics and send them to me. I could get pics of the crane. Maybe I could get my dad to take the grips off and get pics.

If it looks like this one (Imp I Frame, transition, dates to 1952) I wouldn't take less than $550 for it.

IMHO S&W .32s are very under appreciated guns and don't sell for what they should. The vast majority seem to balk at the lowly .32 Long cartridge. I happen to like them and own 3 J-frames. A 2" Model 30 and 3 & 4" Model 31s. The most I've paid for any of them was $400.

That is about exactly what it looks like. But maybe more wear on the barrel.

Main problem is expensive hard to find ammo. And the only ammo we have found locally is simple round nose lead. Probably not the best self defense carry ammo. But far better than nothing.

For .32 ammo, check with Midway, Brownells, etc. No more expensive than .38's to shoot. If you roll your own it is downright cheap.

My Model 31 was bought ANIB with all the "goodies" as a package to settle an estate. The son of the original owner had found it in a drawer after his mother had passed. She had bought it October 11, 1975 from a now extinct LGS as evidenced by the original yellow receipt from Goochland Guns. She was not a gun person, and had bought it because her husband had passed early and she had a son to raise and neighbors had told her she needed a gun for protection. No permits required in those days.

Anyway.....the package sat in a drawer until I bought it. I gave $400 if I recall which was not out-of-line. I have a couple hundred rounds of 32 Long but haven't shot any through this particular gun.

I would say yours, from your description would certainly be in the $350 to $450 range, and if your Mom still has any accessories (box, docs, receipts, holster, etc.) then run the price on up a ways. True "Provenance" does count among collectors, and if you can gather as much family history as possible I find it helps if and when you do want to sell. To me there is a big difference when "buying the gun...not the story" IF the story can be traced to the original Owner and backed up.

Turns out on mine that the gun package resided 2 doors away from one of my daughters, and never more than 5 miles from my house for all those intervening years. You have it in the family....don't let it go.

32 longs are great little guns. I have a couple Is and Js as well as a 16-4. The 32 long hasn't got a lot of whomp. But, it would be better than a sharp stick of IMHO a 22. You can buy bulk RN lead pretty cheap, I cast a semi wad cutter 100gr. I think if I was going to carry a 32 long either a warm wad cutter or semi wad cutter would be the way to go.

Most of them are from $250 up. I can see paying $500or so for a really nice one.

The Ks and new stainless and scandium 32 mags sell for a bunch of money. I could see the logic of carrying an alloy 6 shot 327 mag over a 5 shot 38 special

For a lightweight carry gun, this 432PD (shown here with Culina grips), only weigh's 13 Oz. Fully loaded with 6 rounds of 100 gr XTP 32 H&R Mags it weigh's 16 oz, and the 100 gr XTP travels over 1000 fps from the 1 7/8" barrel.

That 432 is a sweet little gun. I carry a 325, but if I could find a deal on a 432 I might go that way in the summer with light clothes. But, got the wife a 642 and she might take a 632 away from me. She really likes my J and I frame 32s
