Default S&W Model 10 Frames

I noticed that J & G Sales has some old Model 10's for sale with everything except the barrel. Appears to be set up for a 2" barrel but not pinned so they must be at least a 10-8. By the way, they are $149 ea. and toss on a used barrel from Numrich Arms or do a retro PPC revolver.

Just me, but I would look for a used but not abused well worn M10 that is complete before I went down that road. Just my .02

Default Where do these come from?

Just curiosity really, but where do dealers find a supply of such a frame? Doesn’t seem plausible that if they were set for destruction only the barrel would be cut, but maybe.

Again just curious, I see several ‘gunsmith’ projects that a GB dealer routinely lists, sometimes a topic of conversation with Buddies.

Speculation is fun, fire at Will, he’s an easy target anyway.

J&G bought them from Century. Century bought them from overseas police departments and imported them. These are all stamped with CAI import marks on the front of the frame just in front of the trigger guard below the crane. The import marks are very small and not very noticeable. J&G is also selling complete Model 10s with barrels, so I suspect that these without barrels had damaged barrels or were in an armory when the police departments decided to replace their revolvers.

If you do a search for "Model 10 Gunsmith Special" by Dieseltech56, you will find post where he purchased one of these frames and built up a nice looking little Model 10 shooter.

These were originally 2" guns. I ordered a pair a month or so ago, but they've been sitting at the FFL's while the lockdown went on. I picked up a 2" and a 5" barrel (I have the parts for the longer ejector.) I have a gunsmith nearby that's already done barrel swaps for me, so hopefully I'll get these done before summer.

I put mine together for around $200 but only because I had the parts laying around. The last model 10 I saw for sale was $400 in an LGS and it was not in mint condition. If you have the capabilities of timing and tightening a barrel then these aren’t a bad buy. If you had to buy all the stuff to do it then I’d probably look elsewhere.

One of this forum's members is selling me a couple 2" barrels for
the ones I bought. I was an idiot when I sent the check to him
last week. I forgot to sign it.

He was gracious enough to give me a second chance on them.
For that I am extremely grateful.

Thanks Burt, I appreciate it.
