Bought my govt free gun yesterday.
A model 18-3, which dates to 1971.
It has cleaned up pretty well and I'm hoping to do shooting with it tomorrow.
There was another S&W there to I'm thinking about. It's a nickel 27-2, I'm not a fan of shiny.
But, I dont own any yet either, so I guess I should try one.

Well they opened on a modified schedule last week so I went in and got it. The gun in the rear is also a 629-4. It’s transitional with the flash chrome hammer and trigger and the old style extractor w/ pins.

Those are nice! I'd love to have some long barreled Smiths, but there are a few more base models I need to get first.

I have not yet received a stimulus check, but I have spent the money . . . Seems like working from home allows more opportunities to scour Gunbroker.
Model 12-2, Model 940-1 and a nickel 10-8 with a 3" barrel.

I never saw the money because it instantly went to pay debts.

AK-style rifle
I went a little different route with my stimulus purchase...I bought this WASR 10 (AKM-style) from the widow of a recently passed fellow gun aficionado. She was selling this and a few other firearms (no S&Ws, unfortunately) on consignment at my lgs, so I paid her a fair price to help out. I have several other "sporting rifles" and long guns, but I didn't have a AK-style 7.62x39- and you never know when you might need one whenever terrorists or zombies invade the neighborhood! The WASR (imported from Romania and modified by Century Arms) is about 4 years old, but was almost NIB. It had blonde furniture that I didn't like, so I refinished the wood with red chestnut stain and tung oil, and added a Hogue pistol grip and UTG butt pad. I have a VG6 Epsilon muzzle brake on the way to complete the package. Now, if the shooting ranges would just open up so that I could run a few boxes of Red Army Standard ammo through it! Stay home, stay safe.

In actuality, since the current state of the world began, I’ve bought a stainless steel Ruger Ranch Rifle & Springfield Range Officer. Also, I just put an AR on layaway. I’m fortunate in that none of these were funded with stimulus money. Nothing wrong with that, though! I’m happy to say that my wife and I agreed to apply the money toward the principle on our house, which we did. I will add that my gun purchases supported two of my LGSs. Any business I can give them, I will... and, I got good deals!

"Show us your stimulus money guns!"
How about I show a picture of my "Paid in Full" property tax receipt?

I didn't buy a stimulus money gun however I did stimulate the local economy. Several years ago my wife accidentally dropped a trailer loading gate on the rear fender of my motorcycle. Fortunately she missed the taillight assembly but she did dent and scratch it pretty good. The bike is a 98 so finding a finder in good shape took a little time. It has a two tone paint job with pin-striping, so not a simple repaint. So I found a body shop willing to do the repaint and dropped the fender off. Around here it's hard to find a shop that does paint on bikes.
