Just Another Model 10
Just a pic of a Model 10-7( 1977) 6" bbl that I got last year that I do not think I ever posted. I believe it to be unfired beyond the factory. Original grips are regular service magnas. But I had these so I threw them on.

Beautiful gun. I love long barreled Model 10s. Those targets look right on it. Congrats.

Really nice Model 10 . I'm also a fan of the long barreled Model 10. Also put these stocks on and the original magnas are in the safe.

"just another Model 10" is sort of fake news A M-10 or its predecessors of any vintage, in most any condition, is a monument to hand gunnery - is that a word? One in high condition is a thing. I have a few, all of which redefine beauty and function. Here's a couple

Would you say that the model 10, and the M&P before it, is the lynchpin of the S&W line of handguns?
I know it wasn’t the first nor the last, but it seems to be the most widely used revolver line that they ever made.
I, for one, can never seem to acquire enough of all the variations of it.

Neat long barrel model 10.
This 10 stays pretty handy most of
the time.
1960 vintage 4 screw.
I was surprised near over 50 years ago how
accurate a fixed sight revolver could be.

That is a beauty. I had a M65 fixed sight the first week they came out. I used to qualify combat with it. I thought the fixed sights were great. Fixed sights are fine by me

Might as well get another barrel length in the mix. This was a well used example, 2". (10-5) Price was right. I really like the way it shoots. Have had different stock sets on it. These were fabricated from Herrett square butt checkered ones. I enjoyed the project. Bob

There is always something special about getting just another M10, they were the bread and butter work horses of Smith and Wesson for a long time, while they all may look the same, they all have different stories.
This 6” M10 had the football targets on it when I picked it up out of the Detroit area

Below are my 2" and 4" 10-5's made in 1968. I believe them to be fired, but only a few shots. The 2" is D138 which might have been the first or second day of the D serial numbers

Mine's two better than y'all's! Well worn 2 inch Model 12-2 with original grips from 1963 with a Tyler T-Grip and a Clark holster. It's currently my EDC.

I never say "just a model 10". They are the easiest and cheapest S&W handguns to get hooked on, because you can never have just one. I started with a 2" pre-model RB. I try to stick with interesting things, but they can get addictive.

Not wealthy enough to be a serious collector, but have enjoyed my years as an accumulator.
I did finally assemble a motley basket of all the commonly available M&P/M10 barrel length offerings and a variant or two. They all get shot and some carried quite a bit.
I'll list what they are if anyone wants to know.
That one 2nd from bottom-right is a M&P .38 in 3" with a ship date of 1958 per Mr. Jinks - - a little different. Great shooter.

Local has a 6" pencil barrel model 10 in VG to E condition. It is equipped with some sort of target stocks. It is a pinned barrel 3 screw, near as I can tell from the pictures. Asking $350. It seems like a decent price. Any thoughts?

10-?, serial number? been reblued?
I do not recognize the grips but they look nice. Sometimes the grips can make the gun a real deal. I would make a separate post on this gun. You will get more responses

I was just thinking that those standard barrel K frames just do not look right without magnas. I am sure they shoot better though.

They are Herrett "Shooting Stars". And it looks like they are on a
10-5.
Nope I was wrong. Sile. Sorry I just got in from hauling rock
in 5 gallon buckets from the garden. Getting old ain't for whimps.

I have two Model 10-7s and I think they are both from 1979. A blued 5" that I bought new and gave to me mother to keep. I got it back in 2011. It has had exactly 6 rounds fired through it.
The Nickel 4" 10-7 was a Birthday present from my wife about 10 years ago. I saw the ivory stocks on a table at a local show about 2 years ago. Seller had them marked at $30 because he wasn't sure if they were real ivory. Soon as I picked them up I knew.

The S&W M&P (or Model 10 since the numbering system) has
been in S&W's catalog for over 100 years. I would guess it is their
all time best seller.
The Model 10-6 with 4" bull barrel, photo on the left & revolver on the
right below, was FBI duty issue in 1976. 2nd photo from left shows the
10-6 in a Heiser FBI holster.
The Model 10-6 was issued by many PDs, including Boise PD uniform
officers. Plain cloths folks got the 10-5 with 2" barrel. Uniform officers
carried their Model 10s in Jordan Border Patrol holsters.
Jim Cirillo's 4" bull barrel was either and M&P or Model 10 depending
on which writer you are reading. If anyone knows with certainty, let
me know. The NYPD Stake Out Unit, of which Jim was a member, was
involved in over 250 gunfights. Jim performed quite well.
