Original destination possible with PD reimport?
Grabbed one of the CAI import 10-5’s that came in recently and was curious where it had served. For those who have lettered a gun like this before, do they generally letter to a foreign department, or just some hum drum old exporter revealing nothing of its history? I have several older revolvers storied to domestic LE with little supporting documentation. Thought it might be cool if I. Hold nail some particulars down on this one.

They will generally letter to the group, agency,,company etc, that purchased them. Are there any police markings on the revolver? Also look for any abrasions that may have indicated dept. marking removal.

Always look at the gun in its entirety. So forward of the trigger guard it has “JP xxxx”. One post refers to this as meaning it was issued somewhere in the British Commonwealth thru a Justice of the Peace. Robertson’s Trading has similar 10-5’s with the same markings as references Jordanian Police provenance. Anybody care to chime in?

Someone on the forum had suggested Hong Kong for the JPxxxx example.

The 2 barrel-less 10-7's I got from J&G sales both have the
JP designation. I just looked at the 10-5's Robertson has on
GunBroker and The stamping on my guns is a spot on match.
I shot another box of 148gr wadcutters on the one I barreled
today. It has a very good trigger. I think I need to widen the
barrel/cylinder gap because it is a little tight.

People have gotten creative in various forums. I’ve read the “Justice of the Peace” thing before, but I think that’s nonsense. One encounters Jordanian police more frequently. Other suggestions have included an abbreviation for the Indonesian police. Given the large numbers, these definitely came from a large, likely national police force.

Regarding the "JP" markings
Robertson's Trading Post had these M&Ps, if you read the description, buried way down it says:
"Issuance markings are in front of the trigger guard, underside of frame, placed by the Public Security Directorate of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, simply JP with unit number."
They have reportedly over 40,000 personnel.

If everyone was armed, that would require 5 digits, but mine is only 3, so instead of a badge number, the stamping may be common to a city or other police unit.

Standard Catalog of S&W shows the following:
"Jordan Public Security Force: 4" blue, Arabic markings, s/n reported 9D19xxx, ca. 1975."
Nothing about "JP"

I’m no expert, but I have one marked JPxxx, and it is clearly a postmanufa ture stamp, nothing that S&W would have done at the factory.
