Default Model 60

Long time owner, first time poster! Just landed my 7th stainless s&w revolver. 3 screw model 60, pinned barrel, matching # grips, great condition. I'm looking for a born on date. Serial #R1425XX. Thanks for any help. I'll probably be chiming in about my others too.

Hello and welcome from Richmond, Va. One of the only S&Ws I’ve ever parted with is a LNIB Model 60 from 1971. Wish I had that one back.

Welcome to the forum. My only Model 60 is a 60-15. She is a handful with the .357's but handles the .38 and .38+P with ease.

Hey pete, welcome aboard!
From my limited data base I would guess sometime in 1975.

Very nice Model 60. I love those J frames. The model 60 was Smith & Wesson's 1st Stainless steel gun starting way back in 1965. I was just a kid back then. The R prefix on the model 60 serial number started in 1969. Prior to that they were numbered with the other Chief Specials revolvers. Model 36, 37, 38 and 49...and I think maybe the model 50. Oh and welcome to the S&W forum.

Welcome aboard from ol' Wyo.

I've been a Chiefs fan for quite some time, and I finally began adding Model 60s to the hoard a few years ago. I have four oddballs and am still on the hunt for an early one like yours.

What are your other stainless models?
