Default Look What I Found! UPDATE!

Recently, I received an email from a member who told me a friend of his had a 38/44 Heavy Duty that I may be interested in. After exchanging emails, viewing pictures and consulting some experts, we made a deal. Now I know what you are thinking, just tell us what it is! Well, it is a 6.5" Blue Model 20 marked Heavy Duty. According to Mr. Jinks, S211380 shipped 7 March 1963 to H.H. Harris and there were 2ea in the shipment. Here it is:

The Model Marking

Cylinder

Recoin Shield

Crane

Grips

Butt

Left Grip Frame

Right Grip Frame

Box

Warranty Card

What should have been in the box:

In my research, there were only 14ea Model 20s in this group which were in the S192000 and S211000 serial number range. My 4" that went to Pueblo PD is S211411-31 numbers from this one. There were a total of 3ea 6.5" Model 20 Heavy Duties that we know of, so to find this in basically NIB condition is miraculous! I hope you enjoy this as much as I have!

I just realized that I posted this in the wrong section-I'm so used to HDs being prior to 1961!

Calm down and clarify those numbers a little, please.

Ok Airborne, here goes:
There were what I call 3 groups of Model Marked Heavy Duties
The first group of Model 20 marked guns consisted of 14 guns-11ea 4" blue and 3ea 6.5" blue and are found in the S192000 and S211000 serial number range. These were 4 screw models.
The second group of Model 20 marked guns consisted of 34 guns, all 4" blue and found in the S241000 serial number range. These guns, in my opinion should have been marked Model 20-2 since they are all 3 screw guns.
The third group are Model 20-2 marked guns and consisted of 50 guns, all 4" Nickel in the S255000 serial number range, all 3 screw and went to Austin PD.
A total of 98 model 20s so far!

I hope this clarifies the numbers

Bill, it looks like you hit the mother load! What a rare beauty. The early 60s model marked N Frames turn up less often than their earlier relatives, has been my experience. Congrats and that's a home run package for sure!

Beautiful Model 20. Bravo Zulu.

It also tells me that jig holes were still around in 1963 unless the gun was made from an old frame. Imagine that.

That, my friend is pointless. He just used up all his "luck" for this year.

I'm sure glad I'm not an envious person.

I'll explain. 38-44s; and triple locks do not appear on my neck of the woods. And if they ever do. They carry obnoxious prices in whatever condition they appear.

And. I really would like to have a shrouded N frame without a barrel rib.

VM,
The "R" on the frame is an inspectors mark.

1Aspenhill,
I am glad your specialized field is in the 38/44HD models. Just think if it had been in RM's, there probably would not be many left for the rest of us.
Well done!

Kenneth, I could not afford RMs today. I used to get David Carrolls list in the mid 80s and RMs were a whole lot more affordable then!

I thought for sure it would be a 5" Super Police in the 35000 range.

A model marked 20 is very cool. Of course you knew that.

I am continually amazed by these beautiful old guns that appear to have been used very little. Did the original owner not like it?

When I get a new gun, it goes into a holster, and gets used. Carried, handled, shot. They quickly begin to show signs of my affection.

Congratulations Bill. That package is so complete, and effectively still brand new.

It found the right home in your collection.

So great Bill! It amazes me that these "time capsules" still turn up AND manage to find their way into 'loving hands'. Such versus becoming a shooter with 'superfluous' box, paperwork, etc discarded! I do imagine many more such fine pieces before Internet era 'otherwise destined'! Nowadays, services of knowledgeable collector forums with opportunity both acquire such exponentially increased, as well as simple guidance to save some from oblivion. Likely artifacts of many descriptions saved from some sad destiny!
Thanks for posting your rarity! In doing so, my own "vicarious" thrill just in viewing it and realizing it's now in the best of hands!
Congrats & best!
John

Kurusu is correct. Don’t waste your money on the lottery.

You’ve hit one out of the park, Bill. I’m delighted to see this gun went to you.

Another great example of why I love this forum. I'd never heard of a Model 20 prior to this thread. As others have said, I'm thrilled that this specimen was adopted by someone knowledgeable enough to recognize a treasure.

Congratulations, Bill! Glad to see this one land in your hands. I look forward to seeing it join the other HDs on your website - one of my favorites by the way.
