15-3 stamp
Hi everybody!
Got a model 15-3 last year and just noticed a ♤ G-3 stamp on the frame under the cylinder.. is it a military stamp?

I can't figure out how to download a pic from my mobile phone, keeps asking for a URL?
It's a stamped under the 15-3 mark, the "♤" first and then "G-3".. any idea?

It is most likely an inspector stamp.

The G-3 is almost certainly a fitters' mark. I have no idea about the other character. I'm not even sure what you are descibing. In any case, I doubt it has anything to do with it being government issued.

Since I got this beauty in Eastern Europe, thought it would be army related! Did some reading about the "G-3" stamp and that it could be military, while the "♤" spade mark have no clue.. will try again to put some pictures up!

Anything in that yoke cut, which is the part of the frame you see when you open the cylinder, is either a model number, a serial number (not on all models) or fitter's/inspector's marks. There are a couple other marks of note, for instance "NY-1" on NYPD guns, "CS-1" on Customs Service 686s, or the "M" for a 686 modified during a recall. Same with all those marks on the grip frame under the stock panels Couple exceptions there, too, of course, but that's a topic for another thread (of which there are many in the archives.)
You'll also find plenty of threads on true military marks. If you're interested, just search for US Government stamping" or something similar. Interesting stuff!

No G-3 on my Model 15-3 but I do have an "E" and a "3".

Ours are pretty close. Mine will be 50 years old in 45 days.

I checked several of my N and K frame revolvers shipped in the early to mid-1970s. I found the stamps, G2, G7, and G9 on the grip frame and on the inside of the yoke. My best guess is these are stamps of employees who fit various parts of the revolver. I also found circles, hearts, and squares with a number or letter inside them. These are likely stamps of employees who inspected the revolvers.
