Good looking package you picked up. IMHO the 2 1/2" model 19/66's are the ideal all around self defense revolvers.
At 71 I on longer enjoy shooting full tilt .357 Magnum ammo in the one I have. The Underwood Ammo Company makes some Great 38 special +P ammo.
Georgia Arms offers a .357 Magnum round rated at 1,100 FPS, it has a snap to it but nothing like the real deal .357 Magnum ammo.

At 71? I never enjoyed the full-house magnums...except for right at dusk when you tell a buddy, "check this out".

Thanks for the comments.I enjoyed shooting the magnum ammo but the 38 +Ps were easier on the hand.Diffidently need to keep that grip.

It really is in almost perfect condition.I was really surprised for a
piece with it’s age.Box isn’t numbered to the gun but is correct for the piece and aftermarket grips.But I’m looking for a set for it.Anyone do the typewriter labels?

Great gun, please go out and find a set of original grips that fit on e-bay or the here on the forum, It will increase the value and make it a lot more aesthetically accurate. Those grips/stock are from a late model 19/66.

I don't shoot .38s in any of my .357s.
That's why I like .357s.

While you're waiting for the correct grips put on a set of Pachmayr boot grips. They fill your hand a little better and tame the recoil a bit!

Not a 66, but its first cousin, wearing Pachmayr Compac Pro grips. Not much to look at but extremely comfortable.

That is a beautiful gun Gerinamo 69!! I have a no dash and a -1 in 2.5". Both are super clean guns. One has correct box and the other is gun only wearing a tyler T grip adapter. These are awesome guns. I find them highly accurate at the range and easy to carry or stick in a bedside drawer. I shoot 357 magnums through mine. I would buy a model 15 if I was only going to use .38 specials or a model 64.

66s are nice guns, But, a 357 isn't a big bore. You need to start with a 4 for that.

You fast crank a cylinder of stout 158 grain magnums in the 2.5" and it certainly feels big enough bored to me.
Anyone on the other end isn't saying.

Nice! It took me a long time to find a 2.5" 66. It had been fired before so I took it out to the range and shot it some--it shot great and made me regret all those years I went without one.
Here's mine with Ahrends cocobolo grips, courtesy of Fide686; no longer made and true cocobolo is scarce now, sad to say.

I picked up my 66-1 last year at a gun show in Little Rock. The Nill stocks and a Wilson spring kit make it one of my favorites for the range.
I only shoot .38 special and that makes for a nice comfortable shoot.
Loving my 66-1 and you are going to enjoy that beautiful baby that you picked up.

I’ve always been partial to the 44 magnum myself.I carry the delta elite 10mm most of the time.And well the 44 has a 8 3/8 barrel so not really conventional as a carry piece and it’s heavy 😂
Just wanted something different plus I don’t have to police my brass🤔

Not saying a 357n isn't effective, Just saying it is not a big bore. My 325s, 396, 296 are big bore carry snubs.

Now if you want to start measuring then those are just child’s play 
Left to right...SW 500-4” S&W PC 460XVR - 3.5”
Ruger 454 Casull 2.5” 44 Magnum 3”
I like the 460 XVR the most off all of those. It weighs in at 60 Oz . The 500SW at 56 oz.
With all the big bore stuff I have shot and own I still think the 357 magnum is an incredible round (the most power in a reasonable carry package) and is a true man stopper. It's been around since the mid 1930a and is still my round of choice when carrying a revolver for SD.
