Opinions; Which Herretts for 27-2?
I have long wanted a set of Herrett Roper style stocks. I figured they would be just the ticket for a 27-2 (a la Skeeter.) However, I've seen a few photos of guns with their Jordan Troopers, and I confess, they look intriguing.
What is the opinion of those who own/use both? 90% of my shooting is 1 handed NRA Bullseye style with light .38 wadcutters. The other 10% is with .38-44 or .357 loads, two handed for these. Almost ALL single action, I just don't have the need to shoot DA very much.
Given my intended uses, which one do you think?

For me it depends on your hand size, I like the Jordan Troopers better.
I've read on this forum that Herrett's is closing the doors, so you may want to contact them soon to see what they have in stock.
I'm going to miss them, they were my go to stockmakers - here's a couple of 27's:

I can only comment on the Trooper stocks. They are a "close-backed" stock, i.e. the stock entirely covers the back-strap of the revolver. This makes them feel larger which may present a problem for those who have small hands. I preferred them as for me, point-ability is enhanced.
You may wish considering calling Herretts. I have found the people there very helpful, knowledgeable, and personable.

I have a Model 27-2 and like many here, grew up reading Skeeter Skelton and Bill Jordan (and of course Elmer Keith). I had Herrett's make a set of Jordan Troopers to a tracing of my hand. I have a pretty good sized hand, but did not like the Jordan Troopers at all. As others mentioned, they cover the backstrap and make the N frame trigger reach just too much in my opinion. I also believe that that design was really intended for K frames but of course Herrett's would make them for whichever model you wanted.
My opinion was later reinforced when I added a set of Jordan Troopers to a 4" Model 19-3. A much better feel for me with the K frame. Ebay is a good source for used or NOS Herrett's if the factory supply is gone. You may consider their Shooting Star model which have an open backstrap. Sometimes sellers misidentify them, but if they retain their original stickers inside the N frame stocks will be marked XRM for smooth, RM for fine line checkered and SRM for skip line checkered.

I have to agree with Walter Rego. Years ago, I had Herrett make a set of Jordan Troopers for a Mod. 19. They are great, and I still have them. However, I tried a set on an N frame, and they were too big for me. I don't have a set of the Ropers, but I bet they will be a better fit for the 27-2.

Jordan Troopers on an N-Frame are meant for Bill Jordan sized hands, not many can fill those shoes. For normal size hands, I think the Shooting Star grips work very well, and those are what I have on both my N and K frames.
For a reasonably priced Roper style grip, I've been won over to Altamont, yeah they're mass produced and not 100% exactly like classic Ropers, but for less than $100, they're close enough and fit my hand well.

Had a pair of the Jordans made to my hand size back in the late 70's, installed on a 6 inch model 28. I have maybe slightly longer than average finger length, wear a size 20 ring, and XXL gloves can be tight.
That said, these grips, while well made with pretty wood, were just to big for me for good D/A shooting. Worked OK for S/A shooting. YRMV..
