Default 38 revolver info

Hello everyone, my father in law left me a SW 38 revolver. Serial #8k69878. It has black rubber grip and L.A.S.D 3276 stamped just above the trigger. when the cylinder is pulled out additional markings include 41101, just below that is F2U. 15-3 is also stamped. As you can see I am a novice with guns. Any info you might have is very much appreciated.

You should repost this in the revolvers 1960-1980 forum.

It's a model 15 "Combat Masterpiece" and is a very fine gun.

It's chambered for .38 Special, not .38 S&W.

Welcome! The stamp on the left frame indicates it was an L. A. Sheriff’s Department issue sidearm. The 8K serial number indicates it was made in 1975; the other stampings are factory internal codes. Hope this is helpful.
