My 29-2 is here. Date of Manufacture?
My model 29-2 is finally in the house. My son brought it up to me this past weekend. I'll get it out to the range next weekend. I would appreciate a date for this one:
Model: 29-2
S/N: S375591 (correct S/N: S315591)
CTG: 44 magnum
Barrel length: 6&1/2"
Sights: Adjustable

Standard Catalog says the diamond around the escutcheon was deleted in 1968. It also says the "S" prefix serial series ended at S333454. Someone smarter than me will be along to explain things.

Is that 7 actually a 1? It would make better sense.

If so it would be 1968-69.

Interesting that if the serial is S315591 that it has diamond targets. I have seen guns with lower serial numbers with target stocks without the diamond.

Guns were not shipped in serial number order.

There is no way to know for certain, but I doubt if the stocks are original to the Model 29-2. Diamond target stocks were depleted for the Model 29 and Model 57 by serial number S300000 in very early 1969.

Here is the actual serial number. When I posted it, the light wasn't that good and I misread the 1 as a 7. Old guy eyes!
