N FRAME HAND TORSION SPRING
FOLKS:
Can you help me to understand proper installation of hand torsion spring for older model 24 with pinned in torsion spring? Looking straight down on trigger with it pointing forward to the right. 12 o'clock position being the main trigger pivot stud with three other smaller pins at 3/6/9 o'clock. Looks like longer portion of spring goes aft to the "arc" that accepts smaller pin on the hand. Does shorter leg of spring go on top of or below pin at 3 o'clock position? Also, looks like longer leg spring needs to extend to at least center of arc. This spring just touches edge of arc. I don't see how that works. Gun bought by my brother and he said trigger not working all of the time. I know a little about smiths so am trying to fix. thanx for your help.

Taken from the armorer's manual, the "old design" hand torsion spring configuration is shown in the illustration below. A photo is worth a thousand words. In my case, maybe two thousand.

Many many thanx!! Exactly what I needed. Any idea where I might find a new (old) spring? For what ever reason the long leg of this spring will not engage the pin on the hand. I checked Brownells and Numrich but no luck.

As you have discovered, the "new" ones for the MIM series of triggers won't work correctly.
If you are unable to find one, send me a PM with your address and I'll send you one.....a free one.
