Default On an unfired 29-2 with 8 3/8" from 1978

How much does non matching color grip panels affect value. One is more red in color and the other is more blond . Supposed to be original grips.

I have seen a number of 29's from the late 70's and early 80's with mis-matched grip panels. I always like to keep unfired guns original but I would find a more pleasing set of grips and save the originals in case the next owner wants them.

None. Most checkered factory grips were made as pairs without Matching grain or coloration between the sides. Grain matched “bookend” grips are more common on smooth stocks, and those used on factory engraved guns.

I agree with KSK. The majority of checkered stock panels are not matched and were not intended to be.

I have come to expect mismatch on S&W grips and am most pleased and surprised when/if they do match.
Often not only not matched but seemingly from another tree,,,,,, possibly a different forest !

Yes, considerable variability in some pairs. Here's the widest variation that I have; a 25-2 from about 1977.
