Bill Davis Custom revolver
A friend of mine just acquired this old Bill Davis Custom. Looks like a great shooter. I'm curious on the grips. Obviously, the S&W medallions are present, but I don't think S&W ever offered factory grips like this.
Did Bill Davis just source these elsewhere and insert the medallions?
I appreciate any information.

S&W placed medallions on revolver stocks directly over the circle inserts. You are correct, those were not made by S&W.
I don’t think Bill Davis made those either. He was known for his composite target grips with 2 screws.

Nice revolver and interesting stocks!
Is the front sight a three position PPC sight?
It's a little odd that a PPC Open Revolver would have thumb rest stocks since PPC requires shooting from the left side barricade left handed!

It could or it may of not been made by Bill Davis. I can not see the revolver clear enough to see if it is marked as his. I have a PPC revolver built by Master Gunsmith Ken Eversull which uses a Bill Davis custom sight rib manufactured by Aristocrat.
If it is marked as made by Bill Davis then it is his. You will notice on mine Mr. Eversull marked his on the left side.
I have heard or read that a number of PPC revolver makers used the Bill Davis sight rib. I am sure Mr. Davis and/or his company were major producers of PPC guns.

Very nice set of stocks, I'd wager they are made by Cloyce (Cascade). If you poke around you should find more pictures of his work.
Personally, I think Cloyce is one of the great pistol stock makers. I'm certain that he did his own thing, but learned from Walter Roper's experiments. All of the Cloyce stocks I have acquired are legitimately special, and incorporate subtle features that show both his skill with woodworking, and knowledge about what stocks should actually be doing under recoil. A rather rare thing for pistol stock makers who also had enough production to make a real business of it.
In any case, I don't mean to denigrate any of the fine stock makers around these days, but I do personally hold Cloyce in very high esteem. His stocks are in my opinion right behind Gagne made Ropers in terms of quality. I prize them.
