Default Model Texas Ranger Commemorative Question

I traded into an early Texas Ranger Commemorative today. Gun is probably 98% with knife. The case is OK, but not pristine on the outside.

I have been reading old posts on the forum about them and mine has an anomaly that is the basis of my question.

In a 2017 thread RKMESA posted that the early guns (mine is TR182) had the S&W Emblem on the grips rather than the Texas Star. Mine has the smooth target grips with the S&W emblem; however, it does not have the cut out on the right side to view the Texas Rangers Emblem.

Could this be factory or did someone swap out the grips? Other than the cut out they look very much like all the photos of smooth target grips I have found on line.

Based on the trade I'm only into the gun/knife/case for $650 so even if the grips are wrong I'm OK on the deal. Just wondering.

Thanks,

Bill

The only Texas Ranger Commemorative Model 19s that I have seen have had the original smooth target stocks with the special medallions commissioned for this gun only. I'd be suspect that yours are original, as the factory would not let a commemorative out the door that covered any part of the side plate stamping. If I recall correctly, the left side panel had the "football" routing, and the right side panel was relieved to show the stamping completely, and the "five-pointed-star" medallions unique to this model in the customary location.

The grips on all of the ones that I have and have seen have grips like this...

And this is TR39 that has the same grips, but with the S&W medallions rather than the TR medallions...

... and just for fun, TR 1734 with the replacement TR 6" barrel:

Here's the spec sheet:

and the Dealer Announcement

Thanks Richard,

That's what I thought, but with S&W????

Can't understand why somebody would have switched them, but as the early ones had S&W emblems I should be able to find replacements.

Thanks,

Bill
