Default Bargain 10-5

I picked up my second 10-5 just a few days ago for a pretty good price. I know these are kind of considered bottom shelf on the collecting hierarchy but I am personally mostly interested in blue collar working guns that have been there and done that.

The finish is work-worn but the gun is mechanically healthy and the bore is flawless. Hard-worn guns like this develop such interesting character and textures, they are always my favorite pieces of my collection. It's handy for me that they're so much cheaper - I got this one for $199.

Here it is next to my first 10, newer by about 3 years but in slightly better shape. That one ran me $350. I'm new to S&Ws overall and didn't really even mean to start collecting them but I guess I am now. How am I doing?

You're doing pretty well so far, but be careful.....they tend to be addicting!

Scratch the words " tend to be" and substitute " are"

Hard to go wrong for $199; great old guns. I keep saying "no more M&Ps or M10s." Here's the last one (10-5) from a month or so ago that I couldn't leave behind.

Got this 10-5 from a pawn shop 20 years ago for $150. Probably paid too much at the time but I was looking for a square butt M&P with a 2" barrel.

Here it is today.

A Model 10 ain't nothing to be ashamed of. They are THE basic gun, IMO. Every collection needs at least one or three.

I would jump on that for $199, I cannot find any “cheap beater” K frames in my area. I have the good fortune to have tons of shops in my area but used revolvers are surprisingly scarce

I have gotten to where I really appreciate the worn look on the blued models. I used to never want one. Only stainless. Funny how tastes change. Only revolver I would want in stainless are Rugers. I mean I wont turn down a stainless Smith of course.

There is just something classic and very nostalgic on these blued gun regardless of the degree of wear.

Love the Model 10s and 64s. Carried for years as LEO. Load, point, pull the trigger and it goes bang. No manual safeties, decockers, fancy sights, lasers, take down levers, etc.

Ask any old school LEO and you will probably get a similar answer.
