Model 10-6

I own a model 10-6 chambered for .357. The only info I can find is that 1200 were manufactured for the NYPD in or about 1983. The model 13 came out shortly after. Anyone have any info on the value this handgun ?

I believe that special model run was for the NY State Police (NYSP) and not the NYPD. Someone should be along shortly to furnish a bevy of relevant information. Congrats on owning one!

I have had my M10 .357 Magnum for a number of years now so I cannot recall what I paid for it. I understand that not all of them went to the NYSP and I don't think any have NYSP markings BICBW.

As you can see, my gun isn't beautiful any more. It's one of the few guns that I kept despite water stains after my 2018 fire. I just couldn't let it go, especially since it was the first gun that I scored 250 out of 250 with on the Texas concealed handgun course. Every other gun, pistol or revolver, that I took that test with gave me a 246 or a 248.

I think it's definitely worth at least $500 if it's pristine.

Not exactly.

As noted above, the agency was the NY State Police, not the city PD. 1200 seems to be the right number, but it was not c. 1983. Rather it was 1973-74. I own one that has been confirmed to have been with the NYSP. The serial number is in the D707xxx range and it left the factory in May, 1974.

The Model 13-1 was the main production model and it was introduced in 1974. Some were used by the FBI and other agencies. The story is that the FBI was intrigued by the NYSP guns and put in an order for a similar model. In any case, the idea was popular enough to warrant production of a separate model line.

Note: the new K frame fixed sight .357 Magnum started life as the Model 13-1. There never was a "no dash" variant. I don't know this, but I suspect part of the reason was to avoid confusion with the ill-fated Model 13 Aircrewman of 1953, which was an entirely different revolver.

Not all the .357 Magnum Model 10-6 examples went to the New York agency. There may have been as many as another 2,000 units that were sold to distributors. I don't think anyone knows how many. Yours may or may not be a former NYSP revolver. You could purchase a letter on it to find out.

Thanks for the info. It's hard to find any info on it. I purchased it years ago with a 38 spcl model 10. I sold the 38 but couldn't part with the 357. I'll keep digging for more on it.

Live & learn! I thought all the model 10s were .38Spl. I have a 10-8, I believe made in 1988. Seems like "All" the police were carrying them before the 15-round semis became necessary. Every video I've seen has them in .38. First revolver I ever bought and accurate as all heck (in my hands.) I just bought a 15-3 off a forum member that looks just like the 10 only with adjustable sight, also .38spl.

Jim gave you great information. My .357 Model 10-6 (D706428) is a well-used gun that I bought because of its novelty.

The .357 Magnum 10-6 and 64-1 are interesting guns with a short lived history, prior to them getting their own Model numbers - Model 13 (blued or nickeled) and Model 65 (stainless) for fixed sighted K-frame .357s.
