Default RFI: Mod 38

Greetings All,

I just scored a Mod 38 with a 6 digit (no letter) serial number. The gun is in great condition but the cylinder is binding with the use of certain ammo while it works fine with other brands.

The barrel is pinned but the cylinder is not recessed. Is this normal for a pinned barrel to be mated with a non-recessed cylinder?

This seemed to be the place to ask. Thank you all in advance.

Doc

.38Special chambers were never recessed.

Concerning cylinder binding: clean underneath the extractor with a toothbrush or other suitable brush; check for high primers. Most likely the first.

Thank you for the input. Did not know about the .38 spl. The space beneath the star is clean and the ejector rod seems to be straight.

The only revolvers that had counter-bored cylinders were those chambered for rimfire cartridges and magnums (.357, .41, .44). All others had flush rear faces.
