Default Model 10 identification and manufacture date

My friend's dad just passed away and he is going through his dad's gun collection. My friend is not a gun guy so he's turned to me for some help.

Based on the pictures he's sent, it looks like a model 10 (he can't find the actual model # though). He was able to find a serial # of 3D80613. Can someone please help by looking up the serial for me?

Thank you!

Looks like 1978 in the Standard Catalog. I believe all the 3D prefixes were issued in 1978. (typo in book)

Excellent. Thank you! Any idea on value? Gunbroker listings seem to be all over the place.

My friend said it looks like it’s never been shot. He may have the original box and paperwork as well. But he’s not sure as he’s still going through all of his dad’s stuff.

You'll have to try to nail down what model it is in order for someone to determine estimated value. If you can take some good quality photos and post them here, it will be much easier to value the gun. There are some very knowledgeable people here, unfortunately, I'm not one of them.

With a 1978 vintage, it’s either a 10-7 (tapered barrel) or 10-8 (heavy barrel).

The model is so common that condition is going to be the decisive factor in any value suggestion. As said above, photos would be very helpful.
