Model 29-2 and the oddball pre 19 came in today!
Mail seemed to take forever but they finally got here. I think the model 29 might be my new favorite. Real deal Dirty Harry with the 6.5” barrel and some cokes. I was surprised how well it balances compared to the 4” gun. I also got in the pre 19 some of you may remember me talking about. The cylinder does # to the gun, that question came up before. The barrel doesn’t have an N stamp so I don’t think it was reblued. It does have the appropriate Blue markings and the diamond. Some people said maybe it was special order (I personally like that theory), don’t have an explanation for it yet. Might letter it but I would expect it to come back nickel probably. I would like to thank Mr. Newell here on the forum who I got the guns from. He’s awesome to do business with and I’d highly recommend buying a gun from him.

Two awesome guns. Especially the M29-2. And the Coke Bottle Stocks.
I sold my two M19-2s (4" & 6") but kept my 1964 M29-2.
One of my close friends loaded me some hot .44 Magnum loads so one these days I am going to shoot it. LOL

That 29-2 is a real gem. If I had a 29-2 with the 6 1/2" barrel, I would have to spend the money on a real Dirty Harry style shoulder holster. I'd also have to loose some weight and grow about 6 inches!
The pre-19 is interesting and before doing anything like changing the barrel, I'd find out for certain if it left the factory with this finish mismatch.

She sure is a beauty. I hear you on the shoulder holster although I don’t look much like good ole Clint. I wouldn’t dream of swapping the barrel. If it didn’t leave the factory in this configuration initially it was sent back relatively early in life I think. I posted it locally because that’s my habit with all my guns pretty much. Always trying to turn them into something different or better. I don’t really expect I’ll get any interesting offers though.

Amazing. Film was released almost 50 years ago and we still can't discuss a 44 Magnum without referencing Dirty Harry (whose gun did not have "Cokes").
I remember seeing that movie in the theater. I did not yet own a S&W revolver. I would not get my first one until 1976. It was a 6.5" 29-2, by the way. Think I bought it only because they were hard to find (because of the movie) and it seemed like I should have one. That gun was stolen in 1985 (serial N306868 if you happen to see it) so I bought another just like it. Bet I haven't put more than 30 rounds through it in 35 years. Recoil too painful. Like I said, I have it because it seemed like I should.

I wasn’t born till about 20 years after the movie came out. My Dad didn’t own a 29 but he did the Dirty Harry impression every chance he could get. Guess it stuck with me. Part of the reason I got it was to shoot it with my old man. I’m mostly going to use 44 special. Maybe I’m impressionable but there seems like a few S&Ws you have to have. A 29, 27, 36, 19, a 10, a 44 HE and I could go on but they seem like the quintessential modern (hand ejectors) S&W. But that is just my opinion. I don’t know for sure but they look like cokes in this picture with all that checkering can’t really see a diamond though. I could be wrong though haven’t seen the movie in years and it wouldn’t be the first time

One thing about ole Clint the squint - he had some big hands. He makes those n frame cokes look small. I have a pretty good sized mitt and those thngs are still a handful.

Absolutely beautiful guns you were able to acquire and love the tie in to the movie tales with your Dad. That right there makes it the perfect purchase. Being able to shoot it with him and share those great times together is worth WHATEVER you paid for it! You never get those chances back to share special times like that! As Clint might say...."Go Ahead...make HIS day!"
