Default Gun Show Find

Went to the Lions club Gun Show today, searching for My Grail Gun! Model 27-2 with a 3.5 inch BBL. Found one for $1900.00, Fantastic condition, hardly a turn ring, bluing about 100%, target hammer, serrated trigger, standard stocks without a blemish. Not a blemish on the finish other than slight turn ring. Pinned and recessed. SN# N12135. Finally bought it for $1650.00. I am one happy camper. Probably bought it a little early, but they are getting pretty scarce around here. Also came with a box numbered to the gun, paper and cleaning rod. Can some one with a S&W catalog date this for Me. Thanks in advance! Will post pics, as soon as my Son comes over!

PS, Hope this is in the correct section. If not, Mods please move To the correct one.

The 27-2 model started in 1961 and the last year of the 27-2 with 3.5 inch barrel was 1979.
Great find.

Congratulations on a great find!
Price wise you’re in the ball park. I paid about that last December for an S prefix 3.5” 27-2. I had just picked up a 3.5” pre 27 a few months earlier when I stumbled upon this one discreetly tucked away on the bottom shelf of an LGS’s Gun case. I think they were asking $1799 sans box and goodies, I left with it for a little under $1600. Good examples are getting harder to find.

Good find, prices are definitely up on these. Pictures when you can please. In the meantime here's one (blue, S sn) I traded to a fellow Forum member last year for a 16-4 4 inch, still wondering which of us got the better deal. Fortunately still have the nickel one, also an S sn. Enjoy yours.

I think you did just fine on the price. Who knows if you will ever see another one in that condition with most of the goodies yours came with.
As you know, that is a very desirable barrel length.
Well done!

According to the best information available to us, it should be from the early 1970s, 1972 or earlier. 1970 was the first full year of the N prefix. To be precise on the ship date will require a letter from the SWHF.

You got it right - 1961-1980.

According to my database, this gun should date to about July 1970. Would still like to see some pics, even though we all know what they look like.

I'd be happy, too. Don't think you will find another one with the box and accessories for that price!

I have N12479 (a 28-2) that shipped July 1970. I think KEN_L is correct.

OK dcopper. Here is another one to look at until you get a picture up. It's from 1973. You know what they say. If there's no picture, it didn't happen. But seriously, that sounds like a really nice package.

You find a great gun at a gun show... and I cant even find a gun show. Everything around here canceled into the fall... at least.
