I have it in the back of my mind that i want to start searching for a M27. Could be pre 27, 5 screw, 4 screw, 3 screw, 3 1/2 "bbl, blued no nickel. 3T would be nice. I need some education. variations, price range( or what i should expect to pay), box would be nice. Not looking for NIB. A high grade shooter.

Any help would be appreciated............TX

Someone just posted about picking up an early 70s 3 1/2" M27-2 with box and accessories for ~$1600. IMHO that was a pretty good deal. I paid $1300 for mine, same vintage, no box, about a year ago. Prices seem to be a few hundred higher now.



3 1/2" M27s pull a premium, and 3 T's are going to be harder to find on the short barrel.

I would expect a high condition shooter to bring anywhere from $1300-2000 depending on vintage, condition and box, etc. The earlier it is, the higher price it will bring, assuming otherwise comparable condition.

That is a very pretty piece of steel there.

Hit the auctions and just watch and wait... they are out there!

There are deals to be found, if you are patient. I bought two M27-2s in the past year and a half, paid $795 for the blue 6 inch, $870 for the nickel 8 3/8 inch. Granted, not 3 1/2 inchers. My guns were what I would call "high grade shooters." Very nice condition, but definitely had a scratch here or there. Not NIB 100% by a long shot.

I love the 3 1/2"s. I think everybody does. Most of us that own them do not want to sell them. That makes it hard to shop for a specific era/frame/revision.

I have never worried about what engineering revision or time period they were manufactured in. I just bought what was available when I had spare cash

These represent over half a century of 3 1/2" Model 27s. They range in birthdays from 1954 through 2007

Price wise, I would expect that these would be selling from a low of perhaps $950 to a high of over $3000. If you walk the pawn shops and local gun stores and gun shows, sometimes you get lucky.

I had to go to Bun Groker for mine... same problem, the rarer Smiths just don't show up in the gun shops.

Be creative in your searches... the one I bought didn't show up in a model specific search. I think it flew under the radar, as I was the only bidder. Sometimes that can get you a bargain.

Always been more of a "K & L" fan, but sometimes "N" frame just draw you in,,,
A friend purchased this new in 1975. He never fired it and now I am the caretaker. I consider myself blessed,,,

The 3.5 inch 27 is a great looking Smith.
Snagged this 4 inch nickel off a GS table
just before the Lockdown.
