Default 38 SPCL Heavy Barrel

Been a member for quite a while but haven't posted in a long time. In my collection of odd stuff I have a 4" HB marked 38 SPCL that I thought was for a M10 but the front sight is wrong, a ramp on top of a barrel rib that seems way to high for a M10, more like the height for a M15. Barrel has a matte finish similar to the M28 but the barrel has an underlug , not shroud. Not sure of the age but the barrel threads have the cut for a pin, so not recent. Any ideas as to what this was off of. Have never figured out how to post pics so know this question is a toughie.

I don't know what you have there but try Imgur for posting pictures, it's as easy as they get.

Maybe it's a heavy M15 barrel. Some were made. Without a photo just guessing.

I have a Model 14 that has had a barrel fitted that sounds similar to your barrel. Mine has had a K-38 front sight installed. Based on the barrel’s diameter, I believe it was originally a Model 10 heavy barrel. S&W made some guns in this configuration, usually known as a Hanen Special.
