Default Model 28-2 Nickel Finish

This one kept calling my name at recent local gun show in Birmingham. I probably went by seller's table 4-5 times before giving in. Being a certified NickelHolic, I just couldn't pass it up. It came with the brass plated target stocks that really fit well in my larger hands. I'm undecided whether to leave them on it or go with the additional pictured Roper style grips. Best of all...it shoots just as nicely as my blued version. The only thing that would have made me happier would be if it had been an original nickel finish.
Anyway, thanks for allowing me to show off my new-to-me shiny toy.
Comments welcomed.

I love nickel Smiths too!

If itís not factory original, do you know who did the finish? It looks very good

I normally don't like guns that are significantly modified BUT this one I do really like, looks to have been done right! Grips are good and I assume you are in it for little $$?

Looks great! I'd go fancy all the way and leave on the Roper's.

Very nice refinish. Depending on when it was produced, those stocks could be factory original to that gun. They might be worth $200 or so just by themselves.

Yes, very well done. I have a nickeled M-27 4", that looks a factory finish to me.

Was that the AGCA show? Saturday or Sunday?
I was there Sunday morning and I didn't see that one. If I had I might have 2 of them now.
I bought this one several years ago and it's a favorite shooter.
My picture is not as good as yours.

What a sweet ride! You could shave and use that finish as your mirror.

Good for you! It would have spoken to me too!

I wonder if it isn't a product of Fords in Fla. they do very nice work.

It was the AGCA Show on 7/18 - 7/19. Seller's table was located on row at very back of building. Possibly would have recognized him with his 5 gun nickel boxed Model 29's he was selling as a set.
Your revolver looks mighty good to me. Really liking the stags it's wearing.

How about a pic of the butt cap? I am assuming there is no N on the rear of the cylinder or on the grip frame?

Whoever did the refinish sure kept it looking factory. That is sweet.

Nickel finish on a Model 28 is almost always a refinished piece, there were only a handful of factory plated Model 28's ever made. A nickel or hard chrome plated Model 28, to me, screams "field carry". Plating makes the firearm far more resistant to corrosion.

Nice gun

It is kind of odd that S&W didn't produce more HPs in nickel. I know it was the low budget 357 of the day. But, it was targeting the law enforcement market and nickle was the rust resistant finish of the day.

I agree. Maybe the idea was that it was so much of a budget sidearm that too few would spring for the extra cost of plating?

There were the 25 HPs made for the Florida H.P. in the 1950s, but they would have been 4 screws. Again, that one looks so nice, a lunch pail special ?

To my mind, that would qualify as a barbeque gun! Very nicely done polish and plating.

I think it is superb. The seam on the side plate still looks factory to me. As Wrangler Rich said, I wouldn't doubt that Ford's of Florida did the work. I have a K22 done by them and it looks factory too.

I can't believe it stayed on the table of a busy gunshow long enough for you to go by and look at it 4-5 times without someone else snapping it up. It also looks like you were fortunate that some here, including myself, were not at that show! Thanks for sharing.
Larry

I may be wrong, but I think those guns were brush nickel finished.

The FHP M28s had 5" barrels.

I recall reading there were a few nickeled M28s made as salesmen's samples, with 4" barrels, IIRC.

Those nickeled FHP M-28s sound like they were diverted from M-27 production. Skeeter Skelton was quite fond of the 5" M-27. Has anyone ever seen one ?

This is my 28-2 nickel plated. Not as good looking
as yours and is the 357 in bad weather I take if needed.
