No expert here, but I’d say it’s north of $1K...just can’t say how far north.

Edit to add: I looked at GB’s completed auctions and only found one, but it doesn’t have the correct box, just “period correct box.” It went for $925, which I think seems a bit low even without the original box. Yours, as you describe it, should command at least a few hundred more, IMO.

Minimum of $1000 in a face-to-face transaction, and potentially a lot more in an auction with high grade pictures.

When I am wondering what a value is lately, I go to Gunbroker and check listings for items that have SOLD. That is a real world number than you can point to. Obviously, their are outliers, such as when one gun is being sought by two deep-pocket bidders, so check bid history for the sold auctions for evidence of that.

One thing is for sure, prices on the older guns are going absolutely nuts for many models. I am glad I am not pining for something as I am pretty well fixed for guns. But I feel for buyers just entering the game.

A Model 66 (no dash) with a factory 2 1/2 inch barrel by itself brings a premium price over other Model 66's. Add in the box and papers and it goes higher, into the $1000 range. Not fired outside of the factory test firing and you will be well north of $1000. If you get it for $1000 these days, you should also buy a lottery ticket and see if your good luck holds.

I bought a 66-1 with 2 1/2" barrel in very good condition in July. Paid $850.00. I was glad to get it.

A 2 1/2” no dash unfired with box is truly a grail gun for some collectors. Either put it on auction or set a fair price and list it here. Selling at 1K to 1.2K would not be a surprise.

I’d love to find a NIB 2.5” 66 no dash for under a grand. Although the market is soft, out west it wouldn’t last long at $1000. I generally don’t buy vintage guns NIB, I leave them for the hardcore collectors. However, depending on my mood, I’d give $1200 - $1500. For that kinda dough I’d much rather have that in my safe before buying anything Smith is currently producing. Heck, folks don’t think twice before dropping that kind of cash for a mass produced, middle of the pack 1911. That said, I just picked up this nice 19-4 sans box for $568 + tax at a Washington pawn shop.

I believe the $ 1000 figure to be appropriate. (unless you would want to sell it to me. I have several 66’s including a no dash and -1 snubbies. I did not pay that much but I have had them for awhile. If you are a member of OGCA, that would be a great place to sell. I might be interested there.
