Default Opinions on 27-2 deal

I know where there is a real nice 27-2, six inch, nickel, pristine, nice case hardening on target hammer and trigger. Beautiful gun. No case or tools.

He has it marked $975, which is probably reasonable and I could probably get him to come down some, but not a lot. I get all my lumber from him and we have become semi friends. His FFL is a sideline. He used to call me and ask about S&Ws, but I not so much after I advised him to get a copy of the S&W standard catalog. Telling all this because he told me once he buys and tries to get $100 per gun deal. So, he probably has over $800 in it and has maybe $75 max to play with and still hit his $100 profit margin.

It has been sitting for months now. I asked about trades. He knows a lot about what I have, beings as how he does my transfers. I have extra model 28-2s, 2 model 629-1s and a 4 screw K22 (I have a 4" and 6" 5 screw K22) all with some minor wear on muzzle.

I have a really nice 27-2 5" in presentation case. I really have no desire for this 27 other than a safe queen. I just can't justify to myself walking in and laying down 9 hundred dollar bills and seeing what happens. I don't shoot any of the other guns as I plenty of others.

Which gun would you trade off and for how much difference? He asked if I had any K 22s I wanted to trade. BTW.

Actually kind of posting this to help me clarify my own thoughts.

I’d see if he would trade for one of your 629s, or at least partially for the 28. If he won’t trade I’d happily give $900 bones as described.

Sounds like he wants your 4 screw K22. Hey, you need another S&W, at least that is what I told myself on the way back from the LGS yesterday when I went to pick up a 41. go ahead and add the 27 to the stable, it need a good home.

I am probably going to lay down the $900 and see what he says. I really don't have any use for 2 6" model 629-1s though or 2 6"28-2for that matter, But then I don't really need a nickel 27-2.

I guess I'm one of those "gun nuts"

That sounds a lot like the one that I'm putting up for auction in the next few days.

It never fails....when I buy something I really don't need, then something else comes along that I've been chasing for months or years and I wish I had that money back!

In my neck of the woods a boxed 28-2 6 incher shooter sold for $800 private party.
I would have bought it but in my commie state its a hassle right now.
I already have a 4 incher anywho.

I am not sure I would make that deal if I were the LGS. Going by what OP said, he would have 800 into a M28, and be looking to get 900.. It better be an awful sweet S prefix 28 for that kind of money. If he can't sell a 27 for 900-975, he his going to have that 28 for a long time.

However, if he were willing to make that deal, I would give him his pick

No way he is going to trade for a 28-2 and a Benjamin. If that would work I would have already done it. Probably more like one of my guns and a couple of Bs. But he also knows I have just spend a few on lumber and am going to be spending a bunch more as I am putting a 15'x31' addition on my storage building.

You are my hero!! I admire a man that needs another 450 square feet to store his guns.

Must be another nut around here. Thing sit for months and when I went in today the tag says sold on it. He is holding it for a guy. I can make an offer if it falls through. We will see. Not a big deal. Not a nickle or a 357 guy. But it is a sweet looking gun.

O Maybe one of you guys figured it out and send a Montana buddy to get it. LOL
