Default Two inch model 34-1 find

Two weekends ago my wife and I went to an outdoor antique show at the county fairgrounds a couple counties over. I was surprised at the number of gun related items being peddled, nothing which piqued my interest, until we got to the first overhead sheltered sale area. A fellow was selling 3 extremely good condition Smiths----a no dash, TTT, 6 inch model 48, an 18-2 (I think), and this super nice 2 inch model 34-1.

This is the first short barreled 34 I've seen in the wild and it's a beaut. The man's price was 9 bones firm, which I gladly paid. May have been a touch high without the box, etc., but I figured I just paid early.

Oh, and two tables over scored this model 610 belt buckle in the box for $20. Pretty good day if I do say so.

Appears to be in great condition. Wish I'd bought one or two of them when they were $600-$650 but I thought too expensive. I've seen them sell for more than you paid so you probably did just fine. Now, why did you leave the six inch 48? I've got 4's and 8 3/8s but no six. . . . .

Thanks Jeff.....about the 48 (which was a no dash), I already have a great condition 6 inch 48-4 with box & tools so I really didn't need one. He was asking $1200, which I thought was fair, but a short barreled, target-sighted J frame was on my want list for the collection. The 18 was almost immediately eliminated from contention because he was asking $1,000 but it had some rash on one part of the cylinder.

The 34 is what "spoke to me" first, and loudly.

So many model numbers! Sometimes I have to google a number to find out what it is.

So nice find on that Model 34. I hope she shoots well for you.

Kit Guns are wonderful. Between us, Deb and I have several of them, including Models of 1953, Model 34, Model 34-1 and Model 63.

They are not getting any cheaper. I think the last one I bought a couple years ago was $800, just the gun (34-1, 4", nickel). Here's a picture:

Congratulations.

I love the snubby 34s with that big shark fin barrel.

I have one of mine setup with a bobed hammer and a second ctlinder for 22 Magnum. It is a nice pocket gun for trails

I even found a nice old 1953 improved I-frame Kit Gun in a pawn shop a few years back

Love that flat latch look

Well, $1200 would have cooled my interest. I paid $900 or so for a 4 inch no dash 48 this spring which I thought was too much but bought it anyway. I do want a 6 but sure hope to find one for well under $1200. Suppose I can trade one of the 8 3/8s for a 6 if nothing else comes along.

Enjoy that 34-1, its a beauty.

Looking at the condition, you did just fine. I had one about 1 1/2 years ago that was in nice shape, not quite as nice as yours. Unfortunately, it fit into the category of the thought of it was more appealing than the reality of it.
I could not hit the broad side of a barn with mine. Wished I could have because I really like the look of them.
Note: I have to be standing inside the barn with my best shooter.
Enjoy that one it is a very nice example.

You got a great deal. I found mine last year and happily paid $1000 for it. I now use it for cheap practice to keep me in good shape with my 649-1 that I carry daily. Not a perfect match but close enough to stay current. Congratulations on your find!!

HOLY SMOKES! That one is sure purdy!

I knew I got a deal on mine last year, but the numbers you guys are throwing around shock me. I never in my wildest dreams thought I got THAT good of a deal.

Don't tease us. Post pictures!
Is it factory nickel plated? If so that has to be a pretty rare bird...

I've always had a desire for one, but as you all reported I found the prices a little steep every time I located one. I just have to make do with my 34-1 and 63-1, both in 4".

Congratulations, you did well. I find they take a little more concentration than the longer bbls, but can be just as accurate.

I'm glad I've got the ones I've got because at today's prices I will choose something less expensive.

I hear you. My first Model of 1953 Kit Gun with the 2" barrel was only $450. But that was several years back. I've paid a lot more for most of the others we have accumulated since then. But the market is what the market is.

Added: I just checked. I bought that one in 2013. So, they have taken a big leap in seven years.
