Default Found another 66-1

The last one I got I gave to my daughter..she gave the Ruger Blackhawk to my Granddaughter.. Now I have to supply them both with ammo. Anyway I got the last one cheap..the fellow wants 625 for this one. It is in good used condition 4 inch, target stocks no box or docs and while it has been carried it doesn't seem to have been shot much. Worth 625?... I'd like to have it but... well you know.... do I need it?? I will try to post pics in the morning.. Oh and I get a box of Remington 125 gr ammo. If I buy it!

$625 is a great price for you as the buyer.

It would be $850 here.

They only made pinned and recessed 66’s for 10 years, they are not easy to find in the flesh.

I have only ever seen two.

One looked like it was dragged behind a truck and they wanted $600 for it.

I’ve also only ever seen two at 4”. One belongs to a friend who is quite active in this forum. The other sits in my safe thanks to another generous participant in this forum.

At $625, I’d love to have another.

$625 seems like a bargain in the current market, though I was lucky enough to get this 66 no dash with box & docs (no tool kit) for $495 about this time last year from a local private seller. Just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

Wow... i am surprised.. I thought the price was high. I don't usually buy SS guns. Only one I know I have is a model 60. I bought the other one at the last gun show I went to down state...mainly for my daughter so she can have a kinda weather proof gun up on the ranch she is manager of. Out and about on a horse is kinda hard on tools of any kind. Learned about that when I guided waterfowl hunters. Bought at least one new shotgun every year. they lived in all kinds of weather more than 5 months every year. Well I guess I will have to buy this thing. Never thought about pinned and recessed. I used to have a 66 no dash a few years ago..all stainless sights in the box etc etc..never shot it.

These days, a Model 66 for $625 is a bargain. Check it for wear, look closely at the forcing cone. The 125 grain magnum ammo is well known for causing rapid erosion of the forcing cone and increases the potential for cracking the forcing cone along it's bottom edge.

Well I swung by the fellows place today after getting to see a nurse or two...just a normal check up. I talked to the fellow and he told me he needed bullets to load 45 Colt 44 mag and 9mm. So I took him some bullets ended up getting the gun for 375 and the bullets he needed. I told him to keep the ammo. I truly do not need it. Forcing come is ok gun is a little dirty so will clean it up some and take some pics. Pinned recessed but don't think the target stocks are original to the gun.

Glad to see that you got.

Mine was shipped Sept 5th 1980 with Target Stocks.

I don't have the original ones for it. I took the ones that are on it off a Model 68-2 CHP before selling it.

I wish I had the box for this 66-1. The fellow I got the gun from gave me a box for a Ruger SBH with Bisley grip. Yellow and black. Serial on this one is later than the previous poster at 74K90XX. I stopped at a yard sale next door to the fellow that had the 66 and they had a set of K frame Round butt magna stocks for sale... I did not buy them as they were priced at 35 bucks and I have NO round butt K frames. The only gun related item in the whole yard sale. I did buy a new 5 pack of 7 1/4 inch circular saw blades...2 blades were carbide tipped. Paid a dollar fifty. At another yard/garage sale I got a box of Berry's plated 158 gr 357 bullets for 10 bucks. Pickings were slim at the yard sales for gun guys today. last week I didn't go and a friend bought a not quite complete Dillon Super1050 in a bucket for 25 dollars...bucket included. He called me to see if I had any Dillon stuff to get it back into operating condition. Had some..not all

That 66 no dash with silver rear sights is definitely an $800 revolver. It looks in prime condition!

Have to love the 66's. That is a great price for a 66-1 these days. You won't be disappointed. These are my pinned and recessed model 66's. The 4" with stainless rear sight blade is an early variation, only made for a few years. Those do bring a premium.

Yeah, like I said, I got really lucky on getting that one for such a great price. It was actually $475 + a $20 transfer fee, so the $495 price is all in.

Nice 66 you found as they are very hard to come by. Whether you pass it on to your daughter for a life on the ranch or keep it yourself; you did good!

Well actually this is the 2nd one I have bought in 2 weeks. She got the first one when she got back from back east last week. She is having to learn to shoot left handed for a while as she broke her arm(right) and it had to be plated and screwed back together. It was a little nicer than this one and I paid 475 for it. That is why I thought the price was high on the one I have. It is a bit older than this one too. She's coming down to our place and I am either gointg to trade with her or put pachmayrs on it

Well the pachmayrs will definitely help with off-hand. You've found GREAT deals on both of your 66s than I've seen around here lately as most are near the $800 mark. Oh, and above all...you're a good Dad providing for her that way!

I did good at the last gun show..bought the 66-1 for 475 and a really pristine 4 screw Highway Patrolman for 500. But the Highway Patrolman was a 6 inch gun...not my cuppa tea. So it will probably go to someone else at the show next month...for a profit of course

Default Model 66-1

I just purchased a Model 66-1 and it has a Missouri State Highway Patrol logo on it. I haven’t cleaned it up yet but am very excited about the purchase. Looking for info on this gun and if it was carried on duty?

It almost certainly was. The MSHP replaced their older 5" Combat Masterpiece revolvers with the Model 66 sometime in about 1976. I actually have one of the MSHP Model 66 boxes. If you supply the serial number of your gun, either here or in a PM, I can check to see how close my box is to your gun. Wouldn't it be interesting if it is the box for your revolver?

NEVER MIND. I just looked at your pictures. This is a 66-1 and is later than the revolvers I wrote about above. This is one of the Commemorative guns that were issued later (c. 1979). It probably was not issued as a duty weapon.

Default Same model shorter barrel same price

Looks like we both hit the 66-1 jackpot with a price of $625. Mine has the 2.5” barrel but no box or papers and could use some polishing

We both lucked out I’d say!
