19-4 4”
New to the forum. I have a 19-4 4” blued with TT & TH that I bought new in the mid-70’s. SN 35K60xx. I don’t remember ever having shot it. However, the pad on the cleaning rod that came with it does have oil on it so I cleaned it for some reason years ago. There isn’t a mark on the bluing or square butt grips. It’s time for me to let it go and I could use some help setting an asking price. I have the box and everything that came with it new.

$1000 seems to be a fair price IMHO.

FYI, it is from 1978, based on the serial number. The dash 4 was introduced in 1977.

If the gun has a Bright Blue finish, add another $500. If you don't know which finish it has, the end label on the box will specify "BT" in the box labeled "FIN".
You will possibly have a difficult time getting that much if you try to sell it yourself locally. If you want top dollar for it, you might get in touch with one of the big sellers on GunBroker. Sarah15, Woodlawn Boys, Salt Lake Collectibles are just 3 of them I would suggest. Good luck.

I'm glad I read your post. My box has BT in the FIN box.
Here is a photo. It too is a 19-4. I sent it to S&W about
20 years ago for a tune-up and had the McGivern gold bead
installed up front. Replaced factory stocks with the Herrett's
Jordan Troopers. I bought it new back in the late 1970s.

I like that Patridge-style front sight, but why does it have a post-lock style cylinder release button on it?

I never even noticed that. It might have got lost when it was
back at S&W. It has not been out of my sight anywhere else.

I am confused( easily). Are you suggesting that there is more than one finish? The 4th edition S&W book references " higher" grades. I am sure that includes nickel, and engraved, but is it a comparison like a M28 and M27. same gun different finishes?
