Default Pinned, recessed and NIB 27-2?

I was having random conversation with a buddy of mine who is buying a couple of Mosin-Nagant rifles from me. He has a NIB 27-2, nickle plated 6" bbl revolver in its original blue box, 3T's and still wrapped up. It was inherited from a relative.

I have dibs and need to come up with a price, especially if it is as advertised. He is more of a shooter than a collector and does not like nickle plated anyway. I happen to like model 27's and want to make a decent offer.

If it's as advertised, any ideas on price?

Longer barreled nickel guns are a weird market. Sometimes you might get $1200 (or more) for a gun like that and sometimes considerably less. I'd offer $1000 but be willing to come up to $1200.

I think hkcavalier's suggestion makes good sense. Go for it, and good luck. I've never owned a nickel Model 27 or N frame .357 of any age, but they are nice looking (all mine have been blue).

And FYI, all Model 27-2 revolvers had pinned barrels and counter-bored cylinders.

S serial numbered would bring a premium. Check under the grips, too. Post a pic or two when you get it.

In that shape in todays market it will fetch upwards of $2k. Don't believe me? List it on GB.Anything over $1500 you can send to me as a commission..

I'd offer at least two Mosin-Nagant rifles for it.

I don't like nickel, generally, but an unfired NIB M27-2 (how long is the barrel?) would be worth $1200-$1500 in my book, as long as it has all the stuff with it (booklet, presentation case and cardboard one, cleaning tools), and preferably had an S prefix. I gave a grand for a pristine M28-2/6" with no box and only the Magna grips and an early N prefix.

Two thoughts

1) Why do you want a NIB 27-2. It probably not for target shooting or self defense. (Ask not what you would pay for this - Ask first what this would do for you)

2) Make sure to check for corrosion, especially on the cylinder where it rests on the wrapping when stored on its side.

Default No harm in trying for $1200..a no win around here.

I have had my ANIB Nickel 6" 27-2 appraised by 2 other local quite knowledgeable firearms auctioneers...insure at $1900, advertise $1600...probable sale at auction $1800 for the entire package: (gun unfired, wooden presentation case, docs, tools, original box, vapor paper, plastic film liners/ cardboard separators all in original cardboard outer shipping container, SWHF Letter of Authenticity).

These guys are usually pretty good with knocking down the amounts they recommend, and I've bought at estate sales before from each of them. If there arises a "bidding war" I immediately drop out.

Anyway...mine Letters as shipping May 8, 1980 to Faber Brothers Inc, Chicago, Illinois. Nothing special about destination or history, just a nice piece in a complete package.

I'm guessing the same about the gun you are looking at. If gun and blue box maybe tools and docs then $1,200 could do it fair for both parties, assuming of course it is exactly as described to you condition wise.

Let us know how you make out, pics mandatory of course

I just sold a 1967 6" nickel 27-2. It was very nice but had been fired a lot.
No box, no papers just the gun. It sold for $1875 on Gunbrokers.

I bought one off of Gunbroker in May for $1100, in the box with papers. Nickeled 6". However, if he has a Finnish Model 28/30 for sale, and you can get it for $1100, go for it. Those are now north of $1400, as they are the rifle used by Simo Hayha.

Two years ago I sold an 8" nickel 27-2 in barely used condition on Gunbroker for $1,350. Had the case and all.
