Two years ago, my grandfather's 629-1 was the only pre-lock Smith I owned and I decided I wanted at 4" model 19 to go with it. 19s aren't exactly rare, so I didnt see a problem adding one to my stable.

After a few months of looking, I was hooked on pre-lock Smith's and since a 19 didn't readily appear, I decided to grab the 686-3 that presented itself. Soon a 649-3 came along and since they are fairly rare uncommon, I drug it home. Then came the 64-3 3" and who can resist one of those.

A few months later I wandered into a local pawn shop to look an over priced model 12-2 that had been sitting for a while and saw a little j frame. Just for fun, I asked to look at it and, as anyone with my disease would, I fell in love. After all, who can resist a clean Chief's Special from '67 with B&Ps.

So, I was set for a few months, but I still didn't have that model 19.

I had a friend that had a nice 19-4, but he was keen on selling and I didn't want to lean too hard, so I place a "want to buy" ad and hoped a 19 would be offered. Well, I got an email, "I have a long barrel 586, I'll take $500." What do you think I did?

Now, back to my friends 19-4. After a bit of gentle coercion, we were able to strike up a deal and I finally, had my model 19.

Sweet, my "collection" is complete, right? Well, as you my know, that's not how this disease works.

Somewhere along the way, I realized my "collection" was 38/357 heavy and I "needed" a rimfire revolver...ideally a model 63. Here we go again. You guessed it. There were no pre lock 63s for sale within a 1000 miles of me that I can afford, BUT a nice 617-1 popped and I grabbed it.

It's been an interesting journey these past two years. All and all, I dont think I've done too bad. We'll see were I go from here...j frame 22? 44 special. I only have one N frame?

It never ends...

That's quite a few for just two years. But then I have had periods of "excessive acquisition" to the point that I have tried to restrict myself to one a year.

It's working, sort of. I can really relate to your situation of going to look for an M19 but getting distracted along the way.

This made me think of a good day I had a few years ago. At the Fond Du Lac, Wis gun show I got a 19-3, 6", a 15-2 snub nose, and a pre model 10, 6".

That's a great collection over such a short time period. I got my first S&W 5 years ago; a 66-1 4". But I had to start over again after my wife shot it for the 1st time...it became hers! Usually add at least one S&W a year but sometimes that unique one comes along that's NOT in my collection and got to snap it up before it's gone. Restraint is difficult once you're infected with the S&W disease!

Cowboy, The Chiefs Special is a model 36. This one is from 1967 and came with it's original box and paperwork.

Congratulations o a great collection. When I go to gun shows or look online, I used to look for very specific guns and barrel lengths. That did not seem to work out. Now I just look at everything and see if anything suits my fancy. Something usually turns up.
Fortunately there are some very good shows in my area. I picked up a 64 three inch about a month ago. Last show two weeks ago I purchased a 65 four inch in excellent condition for $ 435 OTD.

This weekend is the OGCA. Always 2 or 3 things I want.

I did this in two years and now all of them are gone but two. LOL

That's a great collection! But I have to ask, how do you guys restrict yourselves to just one or two a year? If I don't get at least 2 per month, I wind up weeping and trembling in the corner, getting strange looks from Buddy "The Wonder Dog."

Fredo, I only restrict myself due to budget and availability. I only deal face to face and have been pleased that I've found some interesting pieces within a couple hours drive.

I do what xfarfuldog does. I dont look for anything specific. I see what pops up and decide if it fills a "need".

I do the same rwadley. Sometimes looking for a specific one, you can easily overlook one similar right out in the open. Whoa..wait..what's THAT one?
