I have had a thread about this gun before. The gun is a model 65-2 (P & R) with a three inch barrel. Unfortunately It originally had a four inch barrel. I have been asked before if the frame was cot down as well. It is a round butt frame. Some have said that S&W never produced a 4 inch round butt. I don't know. Whoever did the work did an excellent job. You cannot tell if it was an original 3 inch round butt except for the off center lettering on the barrel.
In my original post I got basically two different options One was leave it alone and the second was have it fixed. I contacted a well known custom shop in Florida. To make it right it would cost $ 500 and over 5 months. They said the polishing off the old lettering and re centering would necessitate polishing the entire gun. The finish now is near excellent. I am not going to put another $ 500 in this gun. I have 2 other three inch 65's (1 a LS) in excellent condition.
This is not an attempt to sell in the forum. I will probably place a for sale ad based on response to this thread. I was at OGCA on Saturday. I must have had 20 people request to look at this 65. When I explained about the cut down on the barrel there were no bids. What would this gun be worth? It is in great condition and a great shooter.
