Default New Adition: M19-3 Snubby 357

I couldn't help myself. There I was... just sittin in my office minding my own business...when my fingers started flappling all over the keyboard and the next thing I know, I'm on the LIST.

I go to close the site down and there it was....a Model 19-3 just begging to go to a new home. I yell out loud...HELL NO..Not Aga..... and suddenly I blacked out!

When I came to, I was on the freeway headed back to my part of town with the Model 19-3 sitting next to me..along with a lime flavored Super Sized Slurpy.

I was wincing when I opened my bank account online to see what I paid. I gasped...

...$660 and $2.70. I couldn't believe I got such a great deal on that super sized Slurpy.

As for the revolver, It's a 1K22 vintage SN which should put it in 1970 to 1971 territory.

It's been carried a lot. Lots of bluing missing from the muzzle's snout on both sides and from the front edge of the cylinder. There's the inevitable cylinder ring as well. Came with the box, the VC Paper and some of the paperwork. No tools. An extra set of hogue or pachmyer grips as well. Locks up nice and tight and no knicks or scrapes. It's one of the few non-N Frames I own in S&Ws. I prefer the big frame revolvers but the tough look of this snubby speaks to me.

I look forward to testing it against my stable of Ruger Security Sixes.

Sorry for the upside down pictures. I missed a step when I edited the photos.

$660 for a 19-3 snub AND the box came with it?!?! Wow a good score indeed. I hope to be as lucky getting one to finish my 19-3 "set".

Congratulations! Should be a good shooter! I was at the gun show 1 day and saw a 66-2 snub. No box, asking $795. Got it for $725. Was happy to get it. Fun to shoot too. Updated the stocks a few times. Bob

Are you sure you didn’t buy the slurpy first and was suffering from a combination of brain freeze and hyperglycemia?

Congrats on a great find!

A few months ago I found this 2.5” -4 at a local pawn shop for about $550 plus tax.

These are great little pieces. I bought this one several years back at a local gun show for only $425. I felt a little bit like a thief. The couple at the table had it marked at $450. I would have paid that, but offered $425. They looked at each other briefly and said, "yes." I went away happy.

I like it. Great looking gun. Just the right amount of wear to not have to worry about getting a scratch on it. Enjoy.

Congratulations

I too am mostly an N-frame shooter, but the 2 1/2" Model 19/66 just has beautiful lines.

My oldest one was bought by my late stepfather back in 1973. I doubt that he put more than two boxes of ammunition through it before it came to me.

Nice find!

Another N frame fan here, but I do love my 19-3 'set'.

The 2 1/2" is my favorite of the three...

Around 1980 I picked up a 2.5" 19-3 used but looked like new. Don't tell anyone but I carried it sometimes when traveling in dangerous waters. Don't tell anyone because at the time I lived in state where it was a crime for citizens to go armed. Sold or traded it for reasons that sounded good at the time.

In 1989 saw a nickel 2.5" 19-3 at a show. Just a hint of holster wear. The 60ish gentleman was selling half a dozen personal handguns. Said he was a retired federal agent and the 19 had been his duty weapon for many years. Paid $185 for it.

Lettered it and I'll be damned if it didn't ship to the U.S. Customs and Immigration office in 1970. Never would have imagined federal cops carrying nickel 357s. The man told me he had fired over 11,000 rounds of 125 JHP Magnum ammo through it. So much for 19s breaking with Magnum ammo.

I really have to say....you guys all take the best pictures ever. I'm starting to think most of us just got in to collecting guns so we can take pictures and show off our photography skills. Well..YOU guys show off your skills. I just ape my cellphone camera at my guns, then post on here and hope for the best.

You guys stage and do proper lighting and put backdrops in and the whole 9 yards. I have to come up with some way to out do all of you.

I will...oh yes...I will......

I have a 2 1/2" 19-5 I picked up many years ago. I found out was a spare for a Kansas City detective who normally carried a 2 1/2" 66. The gun had been fired very little. I keep it loaded with Remington 125 grain Golden Saber .357 mid-range loads. As you guys know they are very accurate shooters whose action only gets smoother with time. Carry it in a Lobo holster.

I generally advocate double action for self defense, but when shooting down planes, I always go for single action. I see that Jim Rockford disagrees.

The S&W Model 19 snubs are great revolvers. I picked up this nickel 19-4 a few years ago from my lgs for $550...ca. 1978, no box, but I don't think it was ever carried and was rarely used. It cleaned up nicely. It's not the softest shooting .357 with the magna stocks, but surprising accurate with its 2-1/2" bbl. Enjoy!

Nice score. Sure should have kept mine as I can see they are much sought after today. Something like $180 new for mine back in 78. Good ole bright glossy blue. Thanks for the great pics.

Nice snubby 19s in this post. Hadn't planned to show this one as it is a little scruffy but pickings have been so slim lately. I bought this 19-3 for $499 OTD last week. Had a funky rear sight blade but that was an easy fix.
