Needing a Long Tube 27 Fix...
For whatever reason the 8 3/8" 27s don't get as much love as their shorter brethren. I however, fell in love with them upon purchasing my first RM, which was listed in an auction as a "Model 3261" (the "3261" preceded by the stamped "REG" in the yoke) with a buy-it-now price of somewhere in the $900 range. I brought it home and I was hooked!!! And THEN I shot it and was even more hooked.
With that in mind I'd LOVE to see your Long-Tube 27s. Here's a couple of my 27-2s to start it off.

Once again thanks for sharing.
I've only had two and sold both of them. I never did shoot either one of them.

Richard - you mention your first RM, and then 'long tube', and model 27 in this thread, and I have to say I am close in all of these descriptions with this one. It is a RM with 8 and THREE-QUARTER inch barrel that I just love to shoot at the range. The DA mode is something like nothing else can compare to, including my Pythons. I know you asked for the 27's, but I hope this will fit in. Thanks for starting this thread.

The "long" of them,,,,,
,,,and the "short" of them
,,,,and a couple in-between. Guess I should search out a 4", 6" & 6.5" to satisfy my O.C.D. Then there are the Nickle finish in each . Where does it end?
The 8 3/8 is my shooter. The 3.5 never chambered a round (yet).

This one came down the line before they began stamping model numbers. Came to me wearing Goodyears so I installed these non-relieved stocks. For $600 I wasn't complaining.

S92005 (two tone with target hammer and stocks) shipped in 1952 in a RM box numbered to the gun. Click on the photo for a better look.

You know Richard, at first glance that $900 looks like an incredible bargain. But considering what it has caused you to spend since then... well, it's like drug dealers. "Here kid, the first hit is free."

Mdl 27-3 "8 3/8 late "N" serial #
Traded a Colt 1908 "Vest Pocket" .25 ACP, factory nickel, aftermarket pearl grips, with a little cash, for this beauty. Again, members, accept my apologies for my poor photographic skills. The revolver looked unfired, just a hint of a turn line. No box, papers etc.

I've posted this one before. Class A engraved, shipped 1973 and factory refinished 9-75, the reason I'll never know.

I've posted this picture before but I don't have a pic handy of my 8-3/8" M27-2 by itself. Trust me, it's in there.

Richard,
Your collection of “Long Tom” revolvers is awesome. Unfortunately, I don’t have any in my collection. But, what’s not to like......more to love, and in your case, more to get engraved! Maybe I need to trade one of my shorter barrel guns for one.😀

Richard, you've probably shown that first Registered Magnum before but we'd love to see it again.
My very first S&W was a 8 3/8 27-2 purchased at the Patch Barracks Rod & Gun Club in Stuttgart, Germany back in 1974. Got to take some better pictures one of these days, but here it is, still have it and shoot it occasionally.

I've got a couple - one of each flavor. Great guns for long range work!

The Mother of All Long Tubes ...
Posted this a couple of years ago when I was lucky enough to secure its ownership, but here it is again, just because the subject came up. (Still haven't been able to bring myself to fire it.)

Super gun and even better provenance . I am surprised Roy got rid of that one.

Jeff:
I have posted photos of my first RM many times before, but it is one of my favorites, so I will post a few more photos. It sports an 8 3/4" barrel (one of the more common lengths for an RM). Somewhere in its life I believe it went back to the factory for a nice refinish, as "star" stamp prominantly graces the bottom of the grip frame after the serial number. However, there are no "re-work" date stamps anywhere on the grip frame. This RM (or "Model 3261") was advertised on GB by a "tactical gun shop" in Vegas as having "bone" grips (actually a nice set of ivory magnas) and it came to me as photo'd below.
Upon receiving the gun, I lettered it and discovered that it had shipped to King Gun Sight Company (probably the premier revolver modifier of the 1930s and 1940s). While there it received a little customizing, including a cockeyed hammer, a frame mounted trigger stop and most likely an action job. When it came to me it was missing the screw for the trigger stop, so I had Nelson Ford mount a new screw. It has an extreemly smooth action and is a joy to shoot. Here is a few photos of her now with a set of Keith Brown Kearsarge stocks.
In this photo, you can see the trigger stop...

Tom: You could not be more correct - this bargain RM has cost me a ton, as it was the beginning of a long-tube .357 Magnum addiction. Hopefully after I'm gone, my children or wife will recover some of the money I have invested in my addiction... With all that said - it has been a FUN RIDE.
