29-2 Presentation case question
I have tried search but cannot find which inserts I would need for my year guns. I have one case with the tools exposed in their proper slots and one with the tools hidden.
Did the case styles vary by year? Or could they be ordered either way?
Thank you,
Duke

I beleive that the ones made in the very late '70s early '80s had the tool compartment with the S&W medalion pull. Also the lower tray is a molded plastic, while the upper is a sheet of foam rubber, all blue flock covered (or the once were).

Presentation cases evolved over time as did the 44 Magnum. The correct style of case would depend on when your gun was shipped by S&W. The presentation case with the accessories in a compartment was introduced in 1979 and used until 1982 when the case was discontinued (could be ordered as an extra cost option until 1985).

Cases
S&W made 4 different types of liners for the Mahogany Presentation cases from 1960 until 1985. A 29-2 could have a period correct case with any of the 4 types. The period correct case can be determined by the ship date of your gun and even then it is a guess!

For a 29-2, I would use an early case with the exposed tools and the gun pointing to the left. Just my thoughts on it.
