Default Model 19-2 auction

There is a popular auction site that just sold a 19-2 with German proof markings for what I think is a crazy number. Item 878312240.

Am I missing something here?

Wow!

I wouldn't have given over $500 for it.

Well, it has rare import marks and rare german proof marks!

Rare aftermarket grips?

Maybe the new owner can say it was Hitler's gun, Vic Hitler.

The price makes no sense to me; the seller should be pretty happy though. Many S&Ws were sold by the Army/Air Force Rod & Gun Clubs in Germany during the '60s/'70s and perhaps later. Some had German proof stamps, many did not.

I had that one on my watch list thinking with the added marks I might get a shooter 19 at a good price. Ha!! No explanation.

We live in crazy times, the scarcity and prices of firearms and ammo reflect the times in which we live.

Wow... that's nuts. That would have bought a 'pre-19' Combat Magnum in similar condition not too long ago.

Looks like three bidders to over $1k, then fell to two bidders that wanted it pretty badly.

Way to high for my liking. I'm not much of a seller but when I see those kind of prices I'm sorely tempted to sell off some of my collection.

We must be missing something. Two folks were willing to go high. Strange bid history.

My bet alcohol was involved, had a friend that let that influence his bidding decisions on occasion.

And the winning bidder has only three GB auctions to his history, two for 4" Model 19s and a 2-1/2" model 66.

Perhaps there was some type of family tie to this gun??? The seller is in Minot, North Dakota. On the yoke frame of the gun in question there is a stamping "TAI MINOT, ND". It's as good a reason as any. Guns do not always have to be something rare in order to bring a high price. In this case, two people really wanted it badly. One wanted it more than the other.

TAI is "The Attic Imports", in Minot, ND, who is the GB seller, and apparently the importer as well. That's the import stamp that was required when the gun was re-patriated. Which goes along with the foreign proofs.

It’s pretty frustrating since I’m trying to find a 4” 19, and you get these crazy bids that seemingly overvalue all of them. But, if ya wanna play, you gotta pay!

Thanks for the clarification of "TAI". Makes sense now. But you can see what all the mind can conjure up with just a wee tad of imagination.

I have been thinking about selling my NIB 19-4, but really do not know what to ask for it

How about everyone stay off of GB for about 2 weeks so I can buy a 19.

Deal?
