'67 birth year 38 serial #s
I'm starting a search for a .38 with a 1967 birth year. SW 4th edition has some ambiguity as to the end of the c prefix and how far into the d prefix a 67 would be. Any help???

I think it is highly likely to find a late C prefix model 10/12 (900000 or so) to have shipped in 1967. Good luck in your search.

S/N C921486 is a Model 10-5, square butt, 2". The factory shipped it on February 13, 1967.
Hope this helps.

An early to mid K 700000 SN adjustable sight K frame (model 14/15/17) should get you close also.

And don't disregard the Chiefs Specials.
S/Ns between 457000 and 585000 might be safe bets, but check before you buy because I show many in that range that shipped between '68 and '71. The serial range includes Models 36, 37, 38, and 49.
My charactered 545731 shipped in July '67 and has the new standard thumbpiece and no diamond around the grip screw (you'll see some '67 Chiefs that still sport a diamond).

Chiefs Special B-day
That's exactly what I would be looking for. My B-day is July '67. Probably won't get that lucky. Seems like the thumblatch is reliably a 67 or newer but the grips won't be a reliable judge. Oh well, the search is a big part of the fun.

Most K's are going to be out of my price range unfortunately. More like a 10 or a chiefs model or something like that is a little more my speed.

I sure agree with that last bit. The hunt is often more fun than the kill.
What's your criteria? Do you want it to be "as new in the box"?

Keep on looking. One will present itself. I found two 38 M&P's (pre10's) from my birth year. One shipped 3 months after my birth day. Good luck.

Criteria
On heck no. I'm a shooter. If I own it, I shoot it. If it's a snubbie, Ill carry it too.

Good man!
I've managed to rescue eight Baby Chiefs from my birth year ('52), but I don't have one from the month I was born, June! One of these days.
Have fun in the hunt.

Rescuer.
I don't know what it is but I just love the guns that are mechanically sound, but cosmetically challenged. I really like the green gray copper brown patina of a well aged gun.

Found one
I just bought online a 10-5 with the serial number c977320 LTV-15. I'm 90% sure it's a '67 but a Roy Jinks letter will have to determine that. It has the right grips. I'm curious if any of you have run across the extra markings on the butt. The serial numbers seem to be a little left of normal so that the whole inscription is centered on the butt. The font for LTV-15 IS slightly wider but the same height and age wise looks as if it was added at the factory. I'll post a couple pics when the gun gets here. Any extra info would be appreciated. The curiosity is what drew me to make the purchase.

Don't give up the search, it took some time to find a S prefix M&P from my birth year of '48 and finally found one that is both birth year and month. Not long after a K22 came along and I wasn't even looking. It looks like '48 and '67 were both transition years for the 38 M&P serial numbers, S to C and C to D.

a 15-2, 4" s/n K744378 shipped June 1967. This would have been a Police side arm back then, so there should be a good number in production. I'm still looking for a 1941 S&W, (other than a Victory mod). I should say, one that I can afford, very limited production back them for civilian market.
