Default My old 66-1

I bought this war horse new in the '70's and carried it for a couple decades, including the Republic of Panama. It usually rode in a Bianchi #9 upside down. It's the "rare" bright stainless variation. Just kidding!! I did that myself in '78. Ran a hundred or two rounds through it and handed it back to the shop owner (graduate of the Colorado S&W smith school) for an action job. It is a great over all carry/defense gun, especially when worn under a jacket in the #9. It is still a fine performer.

Nice gun. I carried a no dash in a shoulder holster back in the early 70s. I don't think they made those grips then and a modified a set of smooth SB targets for it.

Hey W4, why do you have to say "old 66-1"? I remember at the shop when I got delivery on some mod 66-1s. I was 22 years old. Its VINTAGE!

OK, vintage sounds better. That gives us all some wiggle room. RG, It wore Pac Compacts most of the time. The K RB Targets are a fairly new addition. I still have the original magnas though.

Nice! I used to carry my 4" then my 2 1/2" 66 ND's IWB.
I lived in the Panama Canal Zone for two years and Panama for three more, nice country especially if you speak Spanish.

We based out of Sherman but flew all over, in and out of country. We could not be too careful around the PDF or the Ding Batts. A nice break consisted of peacock bass in Gatun and sharks at the mouth of the Chagres.
The 66 was one of two things I carried, hence my call sign. Two Gun.

During my two tours Sherman was used for four things. JOTC, NCO academy,Jump school and Jump master course.
Things changed all the time down there with both the military and the Canal Zone.
Gatun and Gamboa lakes had great Peacock bass fishing, not to mention The Atlantic and Pacific oceans with all their fishing and diving options.

We bunked with JOTC and had a great relation with the cadre. I was always ready to support them with Repelling (day and night), STABO, air assaults, etc. "Doc" was a very good friend of mine and I tried, the best I could, to follow his later hospitalization.
Sorry about the thread drift.

Yeppers. 66-1s are nice. This one got me out of trouble more than a few times.

Old or vintage, that gun is around 40 years old, and looks brand-new. I wish I could weather the time as well as that revolver has, but unfortunately I ain't made of stainless steel. The M66-1 is one of my "regret" guns; I had a 4" one I bought in 1979, and sold around 2005, hence the regret. I keep my eyes peeled for another one, maybe I'll get lucky.

I am still disheartened that Steve McQueen, in "BULLITT", used a Colt Diamondback. Should have been a 2 1/2 S&W 19 in an upside down Berns-Martin rig. I mean a .38??

He should have a .357 at the least. And the 2 1/2 Combat Magnum leads the pack.

My brother carried this 1980 6" M-66-1 the first 10 years of his LE career.
He sent it back the S&W for some trigger work and a smooth target trigger.
