Default Pawn Shop Find

Friend who owns a shop about 25 miles away in Central Georgia sent me a picture. Asked him how much. $350 OTD.
I was there in a couple of hours.
36-1
Nickel
Shipped 1977
Maybe 95%?
Bright Nickel, with a few minor blems.
I added the t-grip out of my junk box. Think it is k-frame size, but that’s OK.
I usually don’t do what I call “gloat posts,” but I figured this one deserves a look.

Handsome 3" Chiefs. Congrats.

Is it in the J5xxxxx serial range? Would you be willing to share the serial number for my database?

Congratulations on your 36! I like nickel.
In YEARS of searching I haven't found anything worth buying at a pawn shop!
Guess that is just my luck. Bob

What's wrong with "gloat posts"?

Nice gun; well done, and if you didn't post it then it wouldn't be fun for everyone here, right?

I would’ve driven a ways for that one, too!
Nice score at a very good price.

And, hey... it’s perfectly fine to gloat, a little. We all seem to share a vicarious appreciation of “the hunt & the kill.” Its part of why I get up in the morning!

Pawn dives in my area would have placed a '7' where your '3' is. And noted on the tag - 'Scarce, rare collectible'.

Good find! Up in the Atlanta area that would have been more than twice the price with a 80% gun.

Two months back I saw an early model Beretta 92 INOX with one magazine priced at $995. They also had a well used M&P 9 for $595. IMO both priced about a third more than what I thought they should be priced. Besides a $200 Raven that was all they had.

Great Find!

I used to love dropping some gas in the truck and just surfing through the local gunshops and pawn shops just to see what was there and maybe score something cool.

Unfortunately, in my local world now, it seems that most of them have discovered Gunbroker and such. I have been to a couple that used to have good inventory and they don't even want to let you see what they have in the backstock because of that. The only stuff they keep out in the cases is the usual common high sales items that are popular.

I don't have any problem with a business doing what is needed to efficiently make money. That's their job and livelihood.

I just wish there was more inventory available for in person shopping.

Nothing wrong with gloating!
It spurs on competition AND gives everyone a chance to drool over another S&W photo.

Great snag Mr. Mark! I chuckeled about the Tyler-T in the "Junk Box". I need to git me a junk box like yours. My junk box only has real junk in it, lol.

A trip to a city of any size to me means making the rounds of the gun shops and pawn shops.

Pawn shops have provided me with things like a 455 triple lock a couple K 22s a 2" M&P 38 special, a model 19-3 a premodel Highway patrolmen, a pre model alloy body guard, a nice 4" model 28-2 and a 6" 28-2 S serial number. Around here there are way more used guns in pawnshops than gun shops. .

J frame, not a K frame, in my opinion.

Ouch.14% of all the guns i own were bought from pawn shops. Some really good finds and some real bargain run of the mill guns.

I never pass by a pawn shop that sells guns without at least poking my head in the door for a quick look.

I have a beat up Model 37 in 3 inch that I often carry.
This is the second 3” 36 I have owned. The 3” guns are very much easier to shoot well than the 2”.

The shop is literally a mom and pop place, very small. Seems like they get in a good many S&Ws. I guess I have bought four or five there over the last few years, plus my stainless Rossi .45 Colt Trapper that I am very fond of.
